Hardly a day has gone by this month without some Iranian official making an aggressive statement against the United States and Israel. The most unbridled are reserved for the Jewish state. Thursday, August 19, defense minister Vice Admiral Ali Shamkhani threatened pre-emptive strikes to protect Irans nuclear facilities. We will not sit on our hands waiting for what others will do to us, he said, adding that some Iranian generals believe the doctrine of pre-emption is not limited to Americans.

The warning, leveled against Washington, brought to mind Israels 1981 strike against Saddam Husseins nuclear reactor. To hit America, Iran does not need to cover the distance to the United States; American forces are close by, as is Americas ally, Israel.

Hey, can you blame them? The stank of exploded shells, burning oil infrastructure, and Iraqi corpses has been wafting their way for months. It would be foolish to imagine that the re-organization of U.S. forces to the middle east combined with an obvious intention to promote an oil-guzzling, pro-Israel stance in the region isn't cause for Iranian alarm. We chose Saddam to go first because we knew he couldn't adequately defend himself. After we become entrenched in Iraq and have a stable base of operations from which to strike out, other middle eastern states will fall as well.

We just need to frame them for terrorist attacks first.

And I think it hardly think it can be called bullying to respond to a threat by Israel to destroy targets in Iran by saying they will strike back if that happens.

Because they don't have a big brother looking after their backs and funding their wars.
