Devino, i'm not sure if you are familiar with this, but i REALLY think that Newgrange was built specifically for Venus.
This is a very controversial story, but i tend to believe most of it. I am fascinated with the Templars and the Masons and if you are interested in Venus i HIGHLY HIGHLY reccomend reading "the book of Hiram" which is summed up in the below link and quoted section:

Like the Maya, the Grooved Ware people were obsessed with tracking Venus. In fact, the triple spiral at Newgrange is not fully illuminated at Winter Solstice, say Knight and Lomas, but every 8 years, Venus comes up just before the Sun, and directly illuminates it (Venus features in many Masonic degrees). Biblical and other connections show that the King rites were carried out in chambers aligned to the Shekinah or Venus light every 40 years (e.g. Saul, David & Solomon all reigned for 40 years), when the King can re-birth into a new body.
They have found that certain Venus numbers are encoded into the Bible (see The Orion Prophecy review for an explanation of the movements of Venus) and these are a 40-year period, 480 years and 1440 years. Venus "loops" every 584 days, and completes a pentagram of 5 loops every 8 years, but this is 2.4 degrees away from its previous position. After 40 years, or 5 pentagrams, the loop is 12 degrees away from its starting position. After 480 years or 60 pentagrams, it is 144 degrees away from its starting position. After 1440 years, it has moved 432 degrees which is 360 + 72 degrees. Have you noticed the precessional numbers here? 12; 72; 144; 432 & 18 x 1440 =25,920. Exact alignment should come after 5 periods of 1440 years, or 7200 years.

With this most famous cosmic moment at the epicentre of our study, we can now expand on the astronomical theme and demonstrate how Newgrange does not stand in isolation as an astronomical device, despite what many people might believe. The Winter Solstice sunrise phenomenon is not the only function of Newgrange. In the book "Uriel's Machine", Robert Lomas and Christopher Knight have speculated that the roofbox and passage of Newgrange may have been used to track down Venus during specific moments in its eight-year cycle. Certainly the evidence for study of Venus is abundant in the Boyne Valley.
Above the roofbox of Newgrange, there are a series of eight markings, which the authors have suggested could represent the eight years of the Venus cycle. This eight-year cycle of Venus ties in very closely with the metonic cycle of the moon, and may have been recorded elsewhere at Brugh na Boinne as we will see later.
Newgrange was built around 3200 BC. A coincidence that i absolutely love, and something NO ONE has given an explanation for, is the start of the current and last mayan calendar's long count which ends in 2012. That started August 11, 3114 BC. I think that is incredibly close to the building of Newgrange and don't think it's a coincidence. Also written language was starting around this time.
I think newgrange is a huge key to Venus, along with the Masons & templars. The Templars escaped to Scotland and built the Rosslyn Chapel. Guess what is built into the Rosslyn Chapel (besides being built after Solomon's temple?)? A light box dedicated to the light of Venus. (hard to find info on this)

The full significance of the way Rosslyn was aligned on a true east-west axis before the existence of accurate compasses has still to be explored - but it fits with Ritchie and Butler's belief that Gilbert Haye and William Sinclair, who built the chapel, were masters of astrology. Unlike any other church, the inside of Rosslyn Chapel was once fitted with shutters, suggesting it may have been used as a secret observatory.
The authors also believe the foundation stone for the chapel was laid on the day of a rare conjunction between Venus and the Sun which is associated with the Shekinah, the female aspect of God. The hidden window may have been used as a way of measuring the movements of the planets, particularly of Venus. And, if the authors' experiments are correct, the light the secret window projected on to the back of the chapel casts a shape remarkably similar to the Eye of Horus, the all-seeing symbol of Freemasonry.
and i can't believe i haven't mentioned this, but the greatest thing about Venus: Besides the moon and Sun, it is the only other object that can cast a shadow. That is what newgrange was built for.
