Sometimes people make themselves out to be more than they actually are, perhaps because they don't feel they're good enough. Whatever, they're full of it. Navy Seals have noticed many people claiming they were in a Seal team and former Seals have made a little project you can use if someone's claiming to be a Seal but you think their story is false:

sec-global.com...

It's called Veriseal. Pretty neat stuff and helps maintain the integrity and image of the Seals from being hijacked by wannabe weirdos.

isn't membership in navy seals supposed to be secret, like in the SAS? i thought they didnt officially exist.

anyway, is there a similar project for prestigious military academies?

This is a misunderstanding among the general public about Seals. All graduates of Seal training are matters of public record.

I guess it's up to the academy itself or its graduates. Veriseal looks like it's run by former and current Seals.
