I would just like to say that I am not bashing anyone on ATS or anyone else, but its sickening to see all of this 9/11 propaganda meanwhile people are dying by the day in more numbers than the amount of people that were killed on 9/11. My respects and thoughts definitely go out to those families who lost loved ones during these treacherous attacks, however, we as humans, fail to realize that thousands of people die daily and we never hear anything about them in the media. I am not sure how many people are informed but there is a tragic drought going on in Somalia and thousands are suffering as we speak right now. I just feel that a majority of the people in America have it good in comparison to people elsewhere in the world. My family was born and raised in Afghanistan, and growing up in an Afghan household, I can tell you that the misery the Afghan people face everyday is nowhere near in comparison to other places in the world. I know its hard when we lose loved ones, but in the world we live in, we must accept these losses, look at them, reflect on them, and finally move on with our lives. The more I see the propaganda on television, the more mind control they are using on the public. They are unconsciously trying to manipulate the brain to think that us Americans are the only ones who are enduring losses whereas other people in other areas of the world are treated worse compared to animals.

I sometimes ask myself, whatever happened to us humans as a species? The greed that is rampant in the world has taken the best of us and its a shame that as conscious beings that have the capability of reasoning compared to other animals, we instead use this beautiful gift of reason to manipulate the minds of others. It hurts like crazy. As a friend once told me, we were all born with a genetic code that gave us the capability to reason and the fact that we never use our reason and rationality is telling me that evolution is really going backwards. Once again, I do not intend to insult anyone with this post, but it is a shock that millions of people die every day and not one word is mentioned about them in the news. It is a shock that individuals like George Bush , the president who is responsible for us fighting two wars and the deaths of many Americans every day, are not brought to justice. It truly saddens me that one death is considered a tragedy whereas a million is considered just a number and statistic. We need to wake up and see that people around us are suffering daily where we sit here and complain about the tragedy of this day. Yes, it was a tragedy, a terrible, inhumane, brutal tragedy, however I feel like we as humans fail to realize that tragedies like these happen everyday.

Not to forget the illegal overthrow of a democratically elected socialist President in Chile by the US Government on the same date back in 1973. In the process, many hundreds of innocent people were killed.

But ofcourse, by default, the US wins the victim card here than Chile, on the same September 11th date.

I think that many, many people are aware of people globally suffering and dieing every day. I think many care and try in their own ways to make a difference. I think many people pray daily for all the suffering and dieing to end.

However....I have realized over the years that evil people will always exist...as well as good people will always exist...and that the good will always be defending themselves against the bad. All us good people can do is to try and save others that are goodness too.

OP - first of all, my love and respect to you and your family. i personally am sickened by what my country is doing in other countries right now. there are many of my fellow countrymen who share my opinion. i hope that everyone doesn't assume that we (Americans) are all warmongering, vengeful, narcissistic whiners. just like i hope that everyone doesn't think that all people in the middle east or all muslims are terrorists. it simply isn't true.

but, i agree that right now that seems to be the majority - though, i do see it finally starting to shift.

today, i posted a link on my facebook page to the "remember building 7" organization (i cannot post the link because they accept donations and this site doesn't allow those kinds of links) and a person who i thought was a friend, who i have known for many years - since before 9/11 - got MAD at me for posting the link and said (and i quote) "if you think that our government has anything to do with 9/11 then you should do America and the world a favor and just kill yourself, and you don't deserve to call yourself an American."

this may be the kind of thing you would expect from a young person - because they may be a little immature and a little naive, and little closed minded - you know with age comes wisdom and all... but this person was older than me and i am almost 41 years old.

i fail to see how a statement like that is any better THAN A TERRORIST. i mean, examine the statement... essentially it is the same as saying "if you don't believe what i believe than you don't deserve to live." and what is silly is this same person will then go on to make posts about support our troops, they are fighting for your freedom. well, the last time i checked, freedom included being able to have your own opinion - even if it is not the same as the opinion of others.

I am almost ashamed to say this, but most Americans think that being patriotic means thinking that we are the only people who are important or we are more important than anyone else. i look around the world and i see all this death and devastation, and i realize that it is so much worse than ANYTHING we have EVER seen here in the U.S. and when you bring that up to people when they are discussing 9/11... when you say "but that is really nothing compared to what goes on in other countries..." nine times out of ten someone will always say "but THIS is America!!!"

i love my country. but i am very ashamed of us right now.

no see that's exactly what you should expect. someone who's spent 41 years on this earth is not going to willingly change their world view to one where the government stuffs people in meatgrinders to achieve a political goal.

Yes, in their world, it's much easier to live with the fact that 19 guys living in caves can bring down the most expansive and technologically advanced defense system on earth. Believing that the government would do this to itself is not something they would willingly believe.

And it usually gets violent, as you are literally shaking the very core of their worldview.
