Laurie - Stand by your man...

Heartfelt, yet technically satisfying - perhaps more of a true music act.

A fantastic performance of oriental belly dancing.

Well, clearly in some cultures fighting is not considered at odds with looking gorgeous!

When Drag was king!

A time-honored form of art (and even competition).
Vintage drag:

From the film The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2000): makeup secrets from Tammy Faye Bakker.

Known for her non-judgmental attitudes, and embracing people with AIDS during the years of stigma and "plague", I think that lady had something real and special. Copied rather than ridiculed, Tammy Faye survived whatever scandals to become a legend.

A tribute to Tammy Faye Messner (Bakker):

One hears that not only has the "fuller figure" returned for female fashion images, but in SA there are campaigns for "truth in advertising" (which are against photo-shopped images), and sometimes I wonder whether drag images have fed back to mainstream fashion.

Lets face it, a lot of Rupauls "drag race" competitors are plus sizes around the edges - figures that could not compete in the Western fashion industry for women at the time.

Take Tatianna, for example:

The Lady Shabazz in Atlanta, Georgia (USA).

A fantastic performance:

The fabulous Blair Michaels performs Donna Summer's Last Dance.

So many fantastic and unique divas leaving us.
What an emptiness they leave.

A tribute to Donna Summer (1948-2012).

Madonna - 1999 MTV Music Awards Drag Tribute.
Hilarious costumes and satire, but of course Madge enters in drag too.

What is a "drag queen"?

Perhaps there are many motivations, but I'd say it's to entertain.

Not to exclude anybody, but the definition goes beyond gay or straight.

In fact, some famous drag queens were straight.

Drag queens sing about the Chick-fil-A saga.

We don't have this franchise here, so I was curious to know what it was all about, and some long thread did give me an idea, but I'd have never thought it's pronounced "Chick fillet".
How did that pronunciation happen?
It almost sounds French.

Anyway, just a slightly saucy satire titled Chow Down (at Chick-fil-A) by Willam Belli, Detox and Vicky Vox:

Nary's Drag Queens perform on a television show from India:

Along with a gay-themed movie, Nary's dance moves and talent saw Bollywood openly taking note of drag and wider gender identities since 2010.

Mary Edith Pitts performs Twelve Days (Daze) of Christmas:

As Abba once suggested, without a song or a laugh what are we?
We should never take ourselves too seriously.
It's all just an act and a performance.

So Merry Christmas to all the drag performers.

Always a literalist, isn't there?

Well, I don't know if these car racers are doing anything right or wrong.
As long as they feel gorgeous with what they're wearing, I suppose they're fine.

Here's another quite literal Drag Race, this time in Cardiff, for charity:
