It would be extremely possible to create a small, but heavily barricaded outpost using local debris and whatnot.

And then what? Starve to death? Die of dehydration? while surrounded by the infected? No thanks.

Unless you've got a realistic shot at getting out to non-infected areas, better to go with my original suggestion....

Well, considering the fact these ARE super-zombies, best bet would be to go on the roof with your choice of drink, watch the world go to hell while counting score how many neighbors have been eaten. When you see one of them' bastards on the roof, go down fighting
