To explain: Back in 1986, when then state representative Perry was trying to educate Texas teens about the horrors of drugs, his office disseminated a video to the high schools in his district. At the end of the video there was a thirty-second gap. Then there was five seconds of a scene from the movie "1984.".

Im not really sure where to post this, so I posted this in General

What are the odds the movie clip would be from "1984"? Considering who this guy is, isnt this a bit...ironic?

Im assuming you are wondering what "1984" is.

en.wikipedia.org...

Nineteen Eighty-Four (sometimes written 1984) is a dystopian fiction written by George Orwell about a society ruled by an oligarchical dictatorship. The Oceanian province of Airstrip One is a world of perpetual war, pervasive government surveillance, and incessant public mind control. Oceania is governed by a political system euphemistically called English Socialism (Ingsoc) that guarantees privileges to a small elite of party members. But they, too, are totally subordinated to the totalitarian state and its godlike leader Big Brother, by way of a philosophy that decries individuality and even reason as thoughtcrime and subjects the lives of the people of Oceania to a supposed collective greater good.

(This book was also turned into a movie)

One of my favorite books, if not the favorite.

Probably just a fluke. I find it almost funny that the 5 seconds from the movie came from " A sex scene"

I know what 1984 is, read the book, but what does it have to do with Perry and the price of rice in China?
I guess I don't see the big issue here.
Maybe he used an old VCR cassette and recorded over 1984???

1984? It is a book by George Orwell. A classic. It was turned into a movie that I felt did the book no justice.

But I digress. You should look into reading it. I read it myself when I was about 14.

George Orwell had a number of great books that tried to suggest what the world would be like under totalitarian rule.Brilliant writer.

EDIT: You know what 1984 is, rendering this entire post, useless. Never mind then

For what it is worth, I highly doubt it was done on purpose. Perry, I imagine, had nothing to do with the editing of the video. Blame the editor.

My dad ( A huge idiot in so many ways that I will not get into) used to work in Television production. He also worked for the state for a while producing, directing and editing many of the educational videos seen in Texas schools. ( Scary thought if you knew my dad....Not a good person at all)

He was once put in charge of making a special video that would be played at the teacher of the year ceremony. In editing the video together, he left out the footage of all the black teachers. Only had the pictures of the white teachers. He swears it was an accident. But to this day, I have my doubts.Yes, he got into a lot of trouble for "forgetting to include the black teachers"

What I am getting at though is...if it was put in there... I doubt Rick Perry had anything to do with it.

Hell, I wonder if my dad was working for them in 1986?

It could be his fault!

I just find it a bit odd that this guy Enemy of America: Rick Perry just happens to have a mistakenly aired part of 1984 on a video he aired

ETA - I doubt Perry actually wanted to put it in there himself, it was the tech's fault. It still seems a bit ironic to me though

I don't know. I honestly think it is a coincidence. Chances are he had no idea that it was even on the tape.

Knowing what little I do about television production, I honestly say, blame the person who edited the video.

I remember my dad showing me the editing studios he worked in before. I remember often he would be working on many projects at once...

Maybe this editor was working on another project, screwed up and put that footage there by mistake?

But yeah, the fact that the footage was from 1984 is interesting, I admit.... Who knows.

Rick perry has ran for campaign for a living... Which is one reason I have never liked him. I don't think he cares about his political duties... I think he cares more about the next election....

Who knows, maybe the person editing the video did not like him for the same reasons there and put it there as a stab at the man.

I like what this man had to say about it 70 odd years ago.

In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.
