Anyone know what the signatures could
mean and why they would occur before
a 3. quake?

I tried to find some info but didn't find
anything I could understand. The
most I might have gotten out of it is
it could be a precursor (please
don't take my word for it).

I've watched that cam many times & I've seen it twitch like that before,
but all is quiet. Don't seismos pick up EQs from all over the world?

This seismo is for the LA area. I have heard that
stations pickup quakes from other areas if strong
enough. I don't really know for sure, need to check
with Puterman. It is still showing long signatures
today and there was a 3.0+ just a while ago at
Big Bear, Ca.

Is it just me, or is this cam completely offline now?
All I am getting is a blue screen. Haven't been able to see it yet today.

Just a blue page for me as well.
Hopefully they are just changing
the paper on the drum.

Crazydaisy, I've seen them change the drum. They don't shut the cam down for that.
You see a mans hand reach in and do the switch.

Remember yesterday or the day before there was a couple long signatures on the roll. One over two minutes and another over 4 minutes. Perhaps that is a precursor to something bigger and it started happening again today possibly? Maybe they removed the camera because they know people are talking about it, perhaps becoming alerted or panicked by it?

Since the camera has been down there was another small quake in Big Bear. Several others up in Piru after the larger quake. Garlock is awake and an aweful lot of activity up in San Fran. Everything is very awake in the last few weeks.

I don't know if they'd take it down because people are getting concerned about it, only because that just means more Page Views which means more ad revenue. And I can't see them going all noble and being more concerned about people panicking over higher Page View counts.

ETA: Btw, I'm just getting a blue screen as well. I'm starting to wonder if companies are having as much trouble with their electronics as the rest of us as of late. I know our network at work went down yesterday afternoon which is incredibly rare (especially since it was a nice day out & no crazy weather).

I don't think the majority of CA people react to earthquakes, tremors or whatnot. A friend of mine in the San Fransisco area said they don't even get up from the could for a 3.0. I do find it odd that they would take that down. It seems quite active in the last few days.

Video of the quake cam on Sunday with a 3+ earthquake happening on the same day it was offline. abclocal.go.com.../earthquake_center&id=8367221 It doesn't look like the paper was completely full. Did someone see the quake before they went offline on Sunday? Still no answer at the number for LA News station.

Here is the link again... abclocal.go.com.../earthquake_center&id=8367221

I saw it and felt that quake sunday. Good size quake on the drum, along with one slightly smaller a few hours earlier and exactly above it on the drum.

I think it's very suspicious that this cam is down. I just did a search and there are no other cams for the public to view.

HMMMM.

What in the world, maybe this is
why they were offline today - it
looks like some kind of malfunction
with the needle perhaps

I hope!!
