Fascinating point, but of course the whole analysis contains an obvious logical fallacy. The number of simulations can not grow exponentially unless the complexity of each simulation was decreasing exponentially. If the universe for the first simulation is finite, and presumably the quantum computer housing that simulation was considerably smaller than the universe that spawned it, you could only consume a finite amount of resources for each simulation and each unique sub-simulation. It can't grow exponentially without quickly overwhelming the resources of that first computer.

However I do believe that our universe is a simulation in the mind of God, who is at least countably infinite. Moreover his wavefunction, as described in the video, has collapsed and he therefore has no time dependency. He is infinite and constant, occupying all time frames. That is the meaning of God living in the eternal present I believe.

SevenThunders,
Almost, almost this exact thought came to my mind earlier today. Truth.

How did they forget that simulations require resources?
They didn't, they just encounter problems when considering all solutions, and illogically discard applicable information.

This is true, but with post-singularity computing power and quantum information storage, one could have quite a number of nesting simulations before one runs out of "harddrive space." As for level of detail, that only needs to be put in when someone is zooming in on it to create a convincing simulation.

LOL now that's a depressing thought. Each sub-universe is grainy and more fake than the previous one. Maybe that's why NDE experiences describing heaven as being 'super real', as though it has more detail and complexity.

Seriously though, if you can't simulate every sub-atomic particle you won't get an accurate model. Hence your simulation device must have at least as many gates as we have particles. Maybe if you leave the solar system you hit the edge of the current sim or something, or more likely we are just confined to 3 dimensions whereas the real world has 11 or something.
