Is this the Cascadia subduction zone awakening? That's all we need this year after so many huge natural disasters...

Wasn't the affects from the flare and resulting CME supposed to arrive Thursday/Friday? Coincidence?

To: U.S. West Coast, Alaska, and British Columbia coastal regions
From: NOAA/NWS/West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center
Subject: Tsunami Information Statement #1 issued 09/9/2011 at 12:43PM PDT

A strong earthquake has occurred, but a tsunami IS NOT expected along the California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, or Alaska coast. NO tsunami warning, watch or advisory is in effect for these areas.

Based on the earthquake magnitude, location and historic tsunami records, a damaging tsunami IS NOT expected along the California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska coasts. Some of these areas may experience non-damaging sea level changes. At coastal locations which have experienced strong ground shaking, local tsunamis are possible due to underwater landslides.

At 12:42 PM Pacific Daylight Time on September 9, an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 6.7 occurred 50 miles/80 Km south of Port Alice, British Columbia . (Refer to the United States Geological Survey for official earthquake parameters.)

If anyone felt the quake and would like to report your experience of it to the USGS, you can do so here:

earthquake.usgs.gov...

You can view other people's responses from the area as well.

yup, work in downtown vancouver and our building just shook pretty good. originally the Canadian earthquake site called it a 5.7 out of Campbell River but now its updated to a 6.7 off Vancouver Island.

Just talked to my friend on Vancouver Island there and he said he didnt feel a thing, kinda weird...

I live in Campbell River and I felt it quite well, I have gone onto Facebook and It doesn't seem like any damage was done. It was felt by some of my friends down island in Victoria and I have friends in Port Hardy that have felt it, and apparently in Port Alberni it was very intense.

It was quite neat! I didn't know what it was at first, I thought I was on the verge of blacking out.

didn't feel a thing but I got my camera ready in case the big one decides to lash out at us randomly.

hopefully it stays on the island, but the other quake on that map was just south of us.
