Al Jazeera English maps out 9/11 coverage

news.yahoo.com

Like most television news outlets, Al Jazeera English will station reporters in New York and Washington on Sunday to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. It also will have reporters on hand in Baghdad, Bali, Nairobi, Kabul and Islamabad.

The event will remind an international audience about what happened on Sept. 11 and how it changed the United States. But through the coverage at overseas sites and documentaries that are airing in the days before, the focus will be on how it changed the rest of the world, said Owen Watson, international executive producer.

I think this is going to be a lot more interesting to watch than the other programs on TV that day.

For one, I'd like to know exactly how the world thinks of all of this.

Especially in places that have suffered and like Baghdad and Kabul because of the war against terrorism.

Please post any comments you may have after you read the article and keep it civil.

Why should we pity America when they are trashing other countries on the other side of the world?

Why should we pity America when the rest of the world was screaming that it was a duplicate event of the Reichstag, we got called anti-american.

What are you going to do? Demand we pity you? Call us names?

The time for Pity has long gone.

You got me all wrong, am not American to begin with
but no body demands pity if you ask me. I haven't seen or met Americans that demanded such. But this is a great opportunity to see how the world think of all this and the other networks aren't doing anything similar.

They expect it, with their behaviour.

If we ever dare not pity them we are viewed as terrorist supporters.

When the revolution happens (if they can get off their big armchairs), I will call them terrorists, just as they have the other "revolutionaries".

Why do you think they push these big events at the WTC and televise it, for pity, to get attention to them.

Oh the poor wee things. When on the other hand they are bombing people, children and families, and they expect us to sympathise. Nope not ever, I don't care who they are. I would say the same for Brits too.

You reap what you sew.

I dont know if its about anyone wanting pity, considering Al-Jazeera is not in anyway obligated to have content swayed towards western culture, i think it will be very interesting to see what exactly they report reguarding the 9-11 attacks, and give us some insight on what others think. I think we will be quite surprised.

Lets not bash America too much, and see what comes out of all of this.

9/11 was 10 years ago. It's not a birthday party.

Move on, get a life, stop taking other peoples lives in revenge.

I'm tired of hearing about it.

Thanks for the heads up on this. However I may feel about Al Jazeera and the audience they cater to, their coverage from around the world on the anniversary will be worth flipping back and forth to. I'm always open to seeing other perspectives, especially if I disagree. I wouldn't have thought about Al Jazeera if you hadn't mentioned it though. Nice catch!

Funny, when non-American perspectives are posted on ATS they get banned, gagged, flamed, and so on.

Americans DO NOT WANT to hear other perspectives. That much is clear, if so much of a little peep that upsets an American on ATS boohoo, they go rushing frantically to the report button.

When somebody does they always seem to start with "I like Americans.. blah blah but..." before they say it.

You're funny.

You're welcome. Maybe it'll get people to think on how improve our world for the better than to just sit and mourn the past.

See you here next year at the next yearly celebration.

We will never hear the end of 9/11.

It just goes on and on and on like a broken record.

Really? Because I've noticed that many of the Americans on ATS are here because they are horrified at what has become of their government. However you choose to justify your issues with Americans, this will all still boil down to the fact that you are making broad generalizations and ascribing values to people you've never even met. Dangerous path to start treading down.

Same can be said when Americans on ATS call Germans or anybody practising Socialism, Nazis or Communists.

Seen it on here many times.

So please, spare me the you are innocent and everybody else just bashes America rhetoric.

The guy is a troll trying to derail a thread. Just ignore him/her/it. Back on topic, being an American, I know what kinds of coverage we will get this weekend. There will be videos and broadcast not unlike the last 9 years. As far as coverage around the world, I would like to see how its viewed. I was in South America during when 9/11 happened and everyone was very kind and supportive.

If Americans will forever relive one morning of horror, imagine just how many more such moments are lived by the people of Iraq. RIP to all who die from violence of any kind.

You know what I really worry about ? We grew up seeing kamikaze planes flying into ships in WW2 and while sad, isn't all that hard to watch. Yet we all watched 9/11 happen in real time and it affected us deeply. So does that mean the kids growing up now and in the future, see these images of 9/11 as not so shocking because it happened before their time ?? The world doesn't pause to remember Hiroshima or Dresden, and each were far more atrocious. We seem to be selective in what we choose to remember.

It's actually one of those "other perspectives" that is talked about in this thread.

I guess you really don't want to hear "other perspectives", unless of course it is an American "others perspective".
