What do Homosexuals and the Lefthanded have in common?

here are the 3 main ones

1- they each comprise approximately 10% of the population

2- they each result from variation in development of the fetal brain

3- historically both have been perceived as more creative/intellectual, yet persecuted as abnormal abominations

whenever i mention either on ATS i tend to get asked to provide credible evidence. i dont know most people don't know about it for the proven theory it is. i remember learning about it indirectly in 3rd grade honors science although they won't spell out the orientation part as that would touch upon sex ed.

but in terms of biology, it's pretty darn simple: we all start out as estrogenic females in the womb, and approx 10% of the time, variation in hormone levels affect the fetus development so it turns out to have homosexual and/or in the case of cerebral lateralization, left handed tendencies.

It seems to me there is homosexuality across the political spectrum, just the lefties can be out of the closet about it.

Well, I thought what gay men shared with lefties was a love of masculine Cuban revolutionaries.

But I guess everyone likes a good looking young man in uniform.

Why did you leave out George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan? They were also left handed presidents. Does this theory only work when you leave out the parts that don't fit for you?

I personally am left-handed and not gay....I am a good person...who is not an abomination. I am hoping people don't think like that now!

A society should be judged on how it treats it's weakest members.

those were the three the nytimes listed; they left out the others not me.

would love to see what doesn't fit the theory. it's quite sound.. but then theres the God hates lefties, god hates gays, propaganda many religious people still stand by to make themselves feel more normal or special or whateverrr.

Well, they were both told they were wicked and needed to change.
The left-hand path is associated with evil.
My granny was beaten in school for being left-handed.
It certainly had a stigma, but not as bad as being gay at the time.

So I guess what it has in common is more of a social stigma, and a social over-reaction at human variation.
People would also tell them lies - if you don't conform to the majority norm your life will be wasted.
But Jimmy Hendrix just blew any stigma against left-handedness into oblivion.

Well in BC, our province, one of the elections, (im sure the programming in the US is too strong many get sold darth vader as justice), but our conservative wolves in sheeps clothing premier got a majority government with a 60% Left Vote, split between the NDP and Green. Not only in his riding, but in the province overall.

Despite the corruption that allowed a minority to slam dunk evil heartless cruelty over a majoirty of wide awake caring and aware people, in a country with a better ecomony, less debt, more services than the US to begin with and STILL HAS, I WAS NEVER SO PROUD OF BC'ERS IN MY LIFE!

I would never sell out the grass roots people by adopting social darwarnism and trickle down economics. Its selfishness, slavery and juvenile.

The world is full of wars run by the corporations and billions starving, wake up and pay attention.

Never put any policy, any economic model or any idea before full equality, no forcing or slavery for basic needs, becuase we have the same rights beavers have to land and resources savvy, and we don't stand under your pyramid ideas. If you read the topic properly, you wouldn't feel so aggrieved. Then again, you're a liberal, you can't be expected to have the common sense to read properly.

Homophobia - fear of homosexuals. You're damn right I'm scared of them.

Homosexuals are more likely to be left handed.

Its said that there's both a genetic, and hormonal component to lefties.

Too much testosterone in the womb predisposes someone for both left handedness, and immune disorders.

There are a disproportionate amount of lefties in the "gifted" range.

I'm a lefty.

My mom was told by her boss that she was the most manliest woman he had ever encountered.

She took it as a compliment.



We're just people.

It seems hormonal imbalance may occur more often when the mother is stressed.

It seems more gays are more likely to be "right brained".

The right brain is said to be the experimental hemisphere.

Homosexuals seem to be a product, at least in current numbers, of a mucked up environment.

Putting it all together.

We're a natural, alternate expression of our species that helps out once the going gets rough.

Homosexuals play their role in the community, just as lefties do.

thats how it was growing up. instinctfully when someone asked me to hand something to them, i'd of course use my left hand because especially if its like a plate, glass or scissors, theres more holding strength in your left when you're a lefty. and i would get scolded by parents, grands, priest, etc. it was considered insulting to give someone something with your left hand.

i wonder if any gays parents had the gayness beat out of them? did it work? doubt it!

The irony of a bunch of posters on a website whose motto is "Deny Ignorance" completely misreading and/or misunderstanding the explicit mentions of left-handedness and deciding to interpret it instead as a reference to a political position is not lost on me.

In the old days, you used your left hand for personal hygiene, and your right hand was "clean", clean enough for thinks like shaking hands. Thus, you shake with your right hand, don't you?
No conspiracy against lefties, at least nothing a lefty can't handle.
