Personal responsibility.

Maybe some of them have started a business..and it didn't go anywhere?

Perhaps the cost of education is out of their reach....and they can't get a loan?

maybe they have gotten a loan, but now can't get a job in the market they were educated for..leaving them stuck with a loan payment, and no job?

Or we could all just commit suicide & hope to be reincarnated into a family who could afford to put a kid through school for a degree, or get a job at daddy's business(that we'll, one day, take over).

This is going to be interesting. Michigan has one of the highest
unemployment rates in the country. Where are these people
supposed to get jobs?
I know plenty of people without jobs , who dont get welfare.

Crime rate will sky rocket.
Hopefully these people can still get foodstamps.
People that can not eat do crazy things.

The government isnt responsible to feed people so other people can pay the bill. Why dont you feed them directly out of your check if that is what you choose.Wishing people to get robbed wont bring you good karma.

I would certainly agree with many posters that the Government isn't responsible for feeding people. Unfortunately, it HAS been doing that for the better part of 100 years and people have become 100% dependent upon it in some sectors.

In all areas, the nation is suffering it's hardest times since the Great Depression. I'm thinking that whatever the long term solution to this may be, pulling benefits at this moment in time is a catastrophic idea. Lets fix this when people aren't desperate and unemployed deep into the double digits.

To do anything more that make times harder for ANY segment of the American population is playing with fire in a gas station. It just can't have a happy ending, IMHO.

Thank You for your support on this issue. I live in Michigan and supporting a family is one thing but supporting a drug habit is another.

Welfare is not the problem.

Jobs and education is the problem.

Attacking symptoms from the illness will not cure anything.

That really is a very simplistic thing to say. You put it as if anyone who has not cracked the next niche market after becoming a qualified and experienced in the field, in 2 years no less beating all others, OR they're just useless slack buggers.

Sure incentive IS the key, but it is nt a guarantee.

Well how would someone get money to do all that?

Oh...that's right...financial aid or a student loan. So much for you anti-government check rhetoric. You smashed that to pieces in your own post..lol.

Cut all welfare and food stamps.Open up a huge farm in every state.Everyone who needs a job is welcome to work on the farm.Sell the crops to other countries. This solves all the problems.

welfare should also have a workfare element. if you are able bodied, you should help local hospitals, fire departments, schools, any kind of work that would make you want to get off welfare, and would benefit the local community

If the government can afford to bail out rich bankers..it can afford to help the poor and destitute.

Wishing the poor not to even have food stamps won't bring you good karma .

And we need to get something straight..I don't want anyone robbed..but if taking away from those who already have little is your idea of helping out the situation.... I think you need to reevaluate.

Most of these people are 4 and 5th generation welfare recipients in Michigan, they do not know what work is.

I have lived in Michigan all my life and have seen many people bleeding the system.

Example (And this will not be inner city racist example either):

Bob lives in rural Michigan, Bob is 43 years old and has been collecting disability welfare for 20 years.

Bob is a healthy 43 year old male that works 2 other jobs and pulls in about 55k a year, plus his welfare benefits which equal almost 35k a year.

Bob has gotten his home insulated, new furnace, new water heater, new windows, and gets his heat and electric paid for by the state.

Bob is a dirt-bag that works the system, that was meant for people truly in need of help.

Bob has gone unchecked by the complacent workers, in the welfare system, that need people like Bob to remain working.

It's high time that people everywhere, in the USA, stop bleeding a system that was put in place to help those that are truly in need, instead of those that think they are entitled.
