I've noticed that peope are constantly complaining about whoever is the POTUS.
Personally for my age I can only remember from the Reagan era to the present, and being a Canadian who is very aware that US politics affect us, I noticed that the general public are rarely ever happy with the leader they vote in.
So I would like to hear about your leaders that you are happy with and why.

for 28 years not one, none have done what they side they would do, all have failed to be true POTUS! All have abused there post!
Now ask me in a history point of view, i will say FDR, and JFK "we like IKE" did ok too but then he was a warrior not a civ, for they did what they said they would do, and where real POTUS not puppets, or party pleasures.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I can make some positive comments about several presidents...

Reagan: Reagan epitomized the word "presidential" in my opinion. I liked his economic policies and I liked the way he handled our military. Life was very good for the middle class with Reagan in office.

GHW Bush: The man's presidency wasn't all that bad. He was stricken with a highly predictable recession (which turned out to be a poorly timed mini recession) following up on the heels of Desert Storm. He certainly was a good statesman for the USA during his tenure.

Bill Clinton: Clinton's presidency was satisfying from an economic standpoint, though not really from a personal standpoint. The economy did quite well once he learned how to actually comprimise with the GOP and together they made the economy thrive.

G.W. Bush: I had no complaints through the first 6 years of W's presidency while the GOP held Congress. The last two years left quite a bit to be desired, however. So, I guess the easiest way to quantify this is that I was very satisfied with his first term, and fairly luke-warm in regards to the second. Bush is a good guy in my opinion, he's certainly someone I'd gladly drink beer with. Probably the only president since Gerald Ford that had any experience of doing an honest day's physical labor.

Obama: I honestly don't have anything. From start to present, "satisfied" is not a word I can use about Obama while trying to pass a straight face test.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

I've been alive since Kennedy, and paying attention since Nixon.
I haven't been impressed with any of them, although Kennedy didn't get the chance to finish, so he might have been better. We'll never know.

From what I've seen, they all contributed to the mess we're in now, in one way or another. Each party seems to take turns adding to the problem from slightly different directions.

Andrew Jackson. Why? He paid off the federal debt and ended the 2nd central bank.

I made an obscene amount of money during the Papa Bush and Clinton years...

It really is about the economy.

And my businesses are on the rebound now; but I will not vote for Obama again.

I liked Reagan, but I was in the military at that time so that may have a lot to do with it. He got us an 11% pay increase as we were at the time being paid pretty meagerly.

I could also get parts for my vehicles and weapons systems when I needed them. Under Clinton, we had to wait until they broke before we could order parts that we could see were wearing out.

Under his Presidency, from a Soldiers point of view, we begin to take pride in what we were doing again. That feels good, ya know?

I have become more politically aware as I aged, and the rest have left me wanting.

guess clinton era was best. great economy and for the most part, the world was seemingly peaceful. back then, the partisan bickering was still in it's infancy compared to today. democrats and republicans still were able to compromise somewhat.

gwb and obama, worst EVER FFS!! dems call bush uber capitalist, and repubs call obama socialist, they are both identical in every way, just horrid!! seriously, if anyone can find redeeming qualities in the last 10 years, god bless yourself.

You must not be very old then.

Clinton was firing off cruise missile into Afghanistan left and right trying to kill "Terrorists" [Just pissing them off really] Partisan bickering has been going on for decades. Bush Sr lost the election because the economy was in the crapper and the initiatives he put in place to stimulate the economy didn't happen until a year into Clinton's watch. [Who took the credit] the best thing Clinton did for the economy was stay the hell out of futsing with it.

I have been a voter since 78, Carter I have not much to say about it.

Regan was not president he open the door for the corporate take over we have now, he was an actor acting as president.

Bush Sr, I thought he was ok.

Clinton, well he sold America to free trade, that is when the real exodus of jobs took got winds, but under his presidency we also made money in the markets.

Bush Jr. don't even get me started.

And Obama well he is starting to look like a failure and a continuation of Bush Jr. policies.

I'm not a staunch conservative, but I do tend to lean to the right. However, that being said, I think President Bill Clinton did an extraordinary job in many ways while in office.

My favorite was Reagan. To me, He was what the word President meant.
I have to say that I helped Papa Bush lose his second term, because I was a supporter of Perot. I still think that he would have been good for the country. I think that we should move away from career politicians altogether. They are a big reason that we are in the predicament that we are in. But then there are the people who vote party line just because they belong to that party, which I think is short sighted and ignorant.

I am wondering when people are going to start worrying about who they are putting in congress, because that is where the REAL power is. In reality, the President is really a figure head.

Well I guess I go back further than some here.

uuhhmm...

Ford was an idiot. No wonder somebody tried not once but twice to assassinate him.

Carter has been an "Awesome" private citizen but a horrible President. The economy tanked the Japanese were kicking our asses in business & buying everything in sight and nothing he could do or say was ever enough to regain the peoples confidence. "STAGFLATION" The US was doomed!

Old shaky face Reagan came in and he may have been an actor but he got things moving. [Some say he sent us down the road we are today] with huge deficits etc. He stood up to the Soviets. "Gorbachev tear down this wall" Star Wars etc. The whole IT thing was in development.

Bush Sr came in and then it all got rather interesting. He lead a REAL coalition against Saddam.[why? Because unlike Jr, Sr had spent decades in the business and was head of the CIA and had dirt on almost all the leaders] who supplied troops to the effort in Kuwait. Kicked Saddam's butt out of Kuwait but went no further.

The whole IT thing took off while the economy was starting to tank and he implemented some stimulus legislation that was passed but like everything when dealing with the US economy it takes time. The results came later under Clinton.

Speaking of Slick Willi. [He didn't have sex with Monica his Cigar did! ] Great President if you just look at his great smile and charming personality. Meanwhile under his watch we saw an increase in ME terrorism. He turned his head when Red China was caught red handed stealing sensitive missile technology. He pushed for NAFTA. [Ross Perot during an earlier elections] said:

"we would hear a Giant sucking sound of jobs leaving the US if it passed"

It did and we did.

Bush jr....

You know, I voted for him the first time around. [Better than the former "Next President" of the US Al Bore] By his second term though I was hoping for an impeachment. [No, I don't miss him] I doubt if anybody seriously does.

Now Obama. Well I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt this first term. We are almost done.

Not very impressed at the moment.

Can you name any of what he accomplished? That intrigues me...What did he actually do? Nothing!
I'll go Clinton ratified NAFTA/CAFTA and gave our weaponry secrets to China.

Not at all. Dead serious, in fact. Until the economy turned to crap, I really had very few complaints about the man and, in fact, thought he did a very good job with a really crappy hand he had been dealt. My only pre-crash gripe about him was that he pussy footed his way in Iraq and approached that war as a liberation rather than a flat out war. I think much of the complaining about him was pretentious parrotting by people who wanted to look cool & rebellious rather than rational disdain. I also distinctly recall a wide swath of people who hated and mocked him from the outset purely because he was old school and a man of personal faith rather than a hipster wannabe technocrat, Al Gore.
