You know, I was going to try and do a quote-by-quote, well thought out criticism of your attempt to convince us Canadians that we should feel sorry for ourselves because we are, as you've said, a bunch of sad socialist morons who wish we were all Americans.
But if being "American" is being like you, Old77 - to hell with it. I don't want to be an arrogant blowhard, even if I don't have "a life of never amassing wealth or owning a nice large vehicle or two. A large house with a back yard and front or perhaps some acreage."
And who says we NEED a gun for protection? Maybe I DON'T WANT ONE. Maybe I feel I don't need one. Maybe, unlike you, I don't think that a double tap to the head is the first answer. I'll defend myself if I have to, just not by shooting someone in the ****ing head.
Yeah, our health care is for the most part, government run. Your point? At least we're not paying out the rear for everything. My father had a stroke earlier this year, and if it weren't for our health care & insurance, we'd be selling our house to pay for his treatment.

Want to be an illegal alien? Not in Canada my friends...you gotta have a legit reason for becoming a resident of... Canada... Think you will have access to all the sweet services an illegal immigrant receives here in America on the fly? More like a swift deportation!

Hey! A compliment! I'm touched.

That's right, we kick illegals and criminals out. Right now, our government has publicly released the faces and names of known fugitives and war criminals living in Canada. Several have already been arrested and/or deported back to their countries.
And yes, you do have to have a "legit reason" for wanting to come here. If we decide your reason isn't good enough - sorry!
You guys seem to have quite the problem with illegal immigrants, I hear. Might try taking an example from us, eh?

In conclusion... this is a Canadian who looks down South "with pity but also a sigh of relief" after seeing all the arrogant, brutish, brainless, grown-up children that appear to make up a large part of the American population. He doesn't have "wet dreams" about his country and people turning into a place like the US - he has nightmares about it. His country may not be perfect, but he doesn't want it turning into what the United States has become over the years.
His country may not be perfect, his government may not be the best, but he's happy living in Canada.

just had to point that out for both those favoring universal and opposing universal, it is not “free”.

No...in fact in Ontario we now pay about $900 annually in heath premium for our family. Two important points...First, yes we pay the lions share of fees in our taxes but our standard of living is at least as good as the US, especially considering the hit they took by banking activities that are illegal here. Second, all that said and done, my cancer was cured for $32 dollars out of pocket...parking fees at the hospital.

Rail on all you like about how bad our system is...now find me a bunch of everyday Canucks that want to swap it for America's 'system'. I sure as hell won't!

Pity all you want...we'll still keep the porch light on and a Labatt's in the fridge for when you come to visit.

The Canadians are sure taking it on the chin today but I still love my neighbors to the north.

This just in...

The French are voted cooler than the British, and Canadians cooler than the Belgians. This may come as a relief for Canadians, who are sometimes viewed as chronically uncool.

At least they're not at the bottom of the list.

Wow, don't need to read to guess at the responses you got. So much faulty information in one post.

You appear to have missed a lot of what is going on up there. In the mid 1990's Canada turned the other way which is why their dollar has gone up. They have redeemed themselves after realizing the problems with cradle to grave. Canada is now more Capitalistic than the US and we need to follow their lead.

Please don't judge us by this person and I won't judge you by the group who slandered me for two hours in a White Horse Bar for being American. Their rant was just as crazy and uninformed. We all have our crosses to bear.

As an American, I find your rant pointless, useless, and I don't understand why you'd write it in the first place. I'm really getting sick of this ego driven nation comparing when in the end we're all human and I could care less whether or not you live in the greatest country or the poorest. I look at the individual. If you're an asshole, I don't hold you in high regard and never will. Stupid rant, and by the way I don't look upon Canada with pity in any way shape or form.

Where did I once state that you system is bad? If that was your, or anyone else’s, interpretation of my post it was not meant to be so. All I was saying is that by definition nothing is “free”, even universal health care. It was neither to applaud the system nor attack it.

In my opinion the United States does not need a universal health care system nationally for many reasons. Among the top are that we have 310 million people, our state of California has more people than the entirety of Canada. The United States is uniquely different from Western nations in our zealous love affair with “rugged individualism” which has come to define our culture. And that we cannot assume what is right, even if it appears morally right, for our people is right for another. I would not suggest that a free-market based health care model is good for Canada, UK, or Finland just as it is not right for them to suggest a universal model for us.

Just because we do not agree with what you consider basic principles does not mean we are somehow worse in any way, just different. In my opinion of course I think the states should have their own universal health care, if they so choose.

Haha, yeah, wrong... Being from Australia and under the Queen I believe my country is the greatest country in the World. Our crime rates are low (compared to the USA), we dont start wars to line our own pockets, and we dont care what people north of our country are doing.

If you pity Canada, I pity you. Jealousy plays in a lot of things these days, and I think that is exactly what you are. If the Brits were stupid Canada would not even be at your border... You get what Im saying you stupid socialist... Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.............

Not like t matters but we are able to acquire semi-auto. It just depends on the gun weather or not it's restricted/non.
such as we are allowed to posses a m14s (m305) yet a FAL is prohibited.

To the OP, most of your information is wrong. This is exactly why (as has been said) the rest of the world looks down on you.

Its NATO that has been bombing Libya, not Europe and last time I recall the US was the predominate member. Britain is also not spelt with two Ts.

As a Brit who has now lived in Canada for 30 years, I consider myself very lucky that I now live in Ontario Canada. I have been to the States and back to the UK numerous times and everytime I come back to Canada I thank my lucky stars.

Sounds like your jealous, because I know quite a few Americans who would rather live here. Oh and by the way we don't have a year end snow, we are a country with four season's just like you, I guess you were one of the children that was left behind in school if you don't know that.

as usual, mass generalizations rarely hold water, and the choice of title for this thread is proof positive. sometimes when one chooses to be insulting and condescending it is wiser to speak for one's self, rather than lumping millions of people you've never met into your forced point of view.

I'm an American and I admire our friends up North. they have some wonderful policies - like their radio content is always a percentage all Canadian bands, making sure their musicians get the exposure they deserve. the few Canadian Television shows I've seen broadcast here (in America) were some of the best TV I've ever seen, namely Corner Gas and DaVinci's Inquest. Corner Gas is a clever rural-town base sitcom featuring a colorful cast of characters. DaVinci's Inquest, IMHO, is the best show I've seen on TV in my life, and I'm a major TV fan. The production values are such that one is right on the street with the characters; it is cinematographic genius. "Kids in the Hall" was another excellent Canadian TV product; those boys were hilarious.

Canada has given the world a lot of great musicians. Some of my favorites: Alanis Morrisette, Avril Lavigne, B.T.O., Barenaked Ladies, Doug & the Slugs, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, K.D. Lang, Long John Baldry, Neil Young, Pat Travers, Robbie Robertson, Rush and The Guess Who.

Canadians are known for a healthy participation in sports and outdoors lifestyle. We fat-arse Americans could use a whole lot more of that.

I'm told that many Canadian adult entertainment businesses are allowed full nudity, so three cheers for that. I've met quite a few Canadian women over the years here in the States and every one of them has been OMG hot.

I'm sorry to say I've never been to Canada but I've heard from many that it is a clean, nice place to visit.

While I'm not a political science major or brilliant guy i can't debate politics and what-not with you. Still, I don't see a need to go insulting people.

Sorry...the 'it isn't free' tag is generally an extension of the 'universal health care doesn't work, and it's a commie plot tool' discussion.

what the f-ck is your problem. canadians view americans as a bunch of toothless inbred hillbillies whose sole purpose in life is to be cannon fodder if any foreign nation decides to invade canada.

canada spends $0 on national defense because it doesn't have to. it's got 300 million plus red, white and blue, lets go u.s.a suckers south of the border without a single brain cell ready to march and defend canada.

the rest of canada laughs while america bankrupts itself trying to take over the world and kicks back in cottage country with an ice cold beer, bikini babes from orillia and moose burgers on the bbq.

No need to make offensive rebuttals about the entirety of Americans because one troll hit your soft spot. In-case you haven't noticed most if not all of the people posting are shrugging off the OPs crap rant in defense of our northern neighbors; and you should be doing the same. Insult the OP if you will, but not the rest of us.

P.S I don't personally know anyone who's toothless or inbred.

It was the Northerners who went North and Burned Toronto to the ground. More like when you people start rioting from all the government hand outs you are no longer receiving you will beg to move south to the states where at least their is order.

Kind of like the War of 1812 when we came down to Washington and burned down the White House and half of DC? Google is your friend, trying educating yourself on Canada before you go declaring what it is like to live here. Ice hell year round? Seriously? LOL

In Canada our taxes are higher and the 'benefits' you claim are hand outs are a direct result of our tax dollars at work. In Canada single parents/two parent families get approximately 200-600 dollars per month per child (no not welfare either so don't start blowing that horn) as a child tax benefit to facilitate the increase of costs in raising families. Do American's get that? From their tax dollars? We also get GST tax rebates four times per year, etc. So the average working canadian does receive benefits, tax benefits, for taxes paid, you get the concept or do you need the hooked on phonics version?

I live on the east coast of Canada and I can assure you we have hot summers, omg, we can even swim in the Atlantic, shocking I know. Gasp! We even have houses and indoor plumbing!

We do have nice cars, jobs, high speed internet, cell phones, etc., and lots of acreage for their properties cause we aren't overcrowded.
I know alot of great American's but never in my life have I desired to reside in the United States for a variety of reasons, sorry to burst your bubble.

Oh and just for laughs.....this is very enlightening....

P.S. It's ok MetalDemon, I sure as hell wouldn't want to live in Ontario either.

Canada is a country of some 30 million losers who'm all accept being subjects of the Queen and the Common Wealth. Canadian's love their government health care system (About to be as piss poor as Brittan(s) bye bye dental) As is in Canadians mind who really cares that you are taxed to death so long as your helping out the lazy bum down the road who wont work at all.

Yes yes..this cold homogeneous society which actually thinks its lucky living in year round ice hell and still cannot even hold a government running long enough without the Queen having to step in and liquidate the parliament.

Looking from a free nation across the border into the slave territory's of Canada...Americans often wonder why anyone would choose a life of never amassing wealth or owning a nice large vehicle or two. A large house with a back yard and front or perhaps some acreage..Just why would anyone ever stay beholden to the idea of never owning a gun for protection? This thought makes most Americans sad as we fought a civil war and lost two presidents to end slavery and human rights violations yet they are still here just to the north of the US.

Yes..during Hockey season and championship losses its always a pleasure to look off to the North and see these nut cases rioting and burning another one of their socialist towns down to the ground. It makes for a real treat over some nice popped pop corn. Of course when all you care about is "going with the flow eh?" What reasn do you have to stand out and go after all of it that you can in a land that allows you to do so just south of you? etc blah blah blah

Sounds like P#n!$ envy to me it reminded me of this Billy Madison clip. Remember you guys voted in George W for 2 terms. Love you all the same cousins from the south after all ya'all human.
Im not gonna be a hater cause haters be hatin. (Really I just wanted an excuse to post this vid)

Funny, I'm American, from Texas of all things, and I don't see Canada in any light but a positive one! Hell, I'm envious of their vast spaces untouched by human hands, their polite society, orderly ways, and hell, their hockey! Call me naive, but I can't wait to visit the Great North and see for myself what it is really like. Right now we're fighting fires, why? Maybe it has to do with our dingbat govenor who thought he'd tell god that we'd had enough drought a couple of months back, and in response, god thought it would be nice to show us just how bad it can get. Next thing you know, it will be like freaking Ethiopia in East Texas, we're already at the second rung of hell!
