"Everything that can be invented has been invented." Charles H. Duell, Commissioner, U.S. patent office, 1899

Complete unconventional encyclopedias of advanced ancient devices and inventions are available at your local bookstores. However, it is only people who invent them in our own time lets say for the past 500 years who get the credit.

Galileo is credited with mapping much of the Solar System where as we are just discovering ancient carvings that depict the solar system in its entirety with the sun at the center!!!!!

The wright brothers were given credit to discovery of "winged flight" and yet the ancients knew about flying chariots, vinamas, and other flying machines such as flying carpets. It is also reported that the ancient greek philosopher Archytas actually built one around 400 BC.

It is also a horrible misconception taught to impressionable youth that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492, when the Native Cultures were there for much much longer before he ever arrived!!!!

Cases like these could be found throughout history with famous men such as Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, and Henry Ford.

The ancient people had inventors too. However, it wasn't until recent years that inventors figured out how to develop their product into a successful money making business.

The invention of the wheel itself is a mystery. Obviously records of who invented these early devices are long gone possibly never recorded at all, but they seemed to originate all over the world at around 5000 BC. By 3000 BC Carts and wagons were the preferred mechanism to carry goods and supplies.

There are many different types of inventions that are just being discovered today. These inventions include: Sailboats, the hammer, the calculator, unknown gears, nails, painting, coins, flying machines, swords, telescopes, binoculars, magnified glasses, the chariot, the bow and arrow, the mill, certain farming tools, whips, rope, paper, and many many more.

So what have we forgotten about our ancient past that makes us believe that we are just inventing these things now? Is it just human ego?

Inventions evolve, regardless of when or by whom they were invented.

From the simple water clock to the atomic clocks we have today.

Every stage of an invention overtime surpasses the original idea, model, function, ease, cost, ability etc to do its purpose.

But I agree maybe there are in days gone by simpler ways of doing things like moving huge stones and other things.

I suppose thats why we have worldwide patent offices today, because as sure as the sun rises everyday your amazing eureka moment has already happened to someone else in another country. Probalby years ago but never got to production.

This thread made me think of the slogan to the "Orion conspiracy" which is "The only new things are those which have been forgotten" which also explains this rather well.

If civilizations in the far past had the technology to store their information digitally and had no use of physical copies, would we know it existed without the physical evidence?

Interesting topic, makes you think how far do civilizations go back in time on this earth and if they left this planet or where wiped out.
