Fat children taken away from parents

Parents of seven told: Your children are too fat, so you will never see them again.

Four obese children are on the brink of being permanently removed from their family by social workers after their parents failed to bring their weight under control.

In the first case of its kind, their mother and father now face what they call the ‘unbearable’ likelihood of never seeing them again.

Their three daughters, aged 11, seven and one, and five-year-old son, will either be ‘fostered without contact’ or adopted.

This is a very disturbing story, if accurate.

The family consisting of two parents and seven children were given an ultimatum three years ago regarding the weight of the children. They were put into a "big brother" style house for two years so that Dundee council social workers could constantly supervise their eating habits.

Now four of the children are to be taken away because they didn't lose the weight.

At meal times, a social worker stood in the room taking notes. Doctors raised concerns that the children put on weight whenever they spent time with their parents, a claim they vehemently denied.

The couple and their children also had to adhere to a strict 11pm curfew. This involved ‘clocking’ in and out by filling in a sheet held by an employee who lived on site.

Although the children’s weight was the major concern, other allegations were included in a report. It showed that social workers were worried when the youngest child was found crawling unsupervised. The parents point out they were never far away and the flat had no stairs

The family were given a curfew even though they've never broken the law. The father was so sick of their treatment he left them, and when mum eventually followed the children were taken into care.

I'm assuming there are no fat or obese children living in state run homes, or in foster care, or even with adopted parents, right? Because they're with the good guys.

I like some of the public comments posted at the bottom of the DailyMail article.

-No disrespect, but I know a social worker who is on the very heavy side, and so is her daughter, would the same apply to her then?

-Be very afraid

-Either we are not being told the full story or there is something VERY wrong here! Whichever it is, taking their children away cannot be the right answer!

-If you tolerate this then your children will be next.

And what about things like this? -

We've found the gene that makes you fat, claim scientists studying obesity

The 'master switch' gene which causes obesity has been identified, scientists have claimed.

The DNA is thought to be what controls other genes found in the body's fat cells.

Some people are fatter than others, aren't they?

poverty and depression, when all you can look forward too in a day is the food you eat then this is the result

Hasn't it occurred to any of you nanny-staters that this is exactly what you want to happen on every issue? This is exactly where your "solutions" lead.

And I wonder at what point will a Brit stand up to their gov't?

Something has to be excluded from the story!

Its the Daily Mail, of course something is missing from the story. I doubt that it is even real.

It is real. It has been ongoing for years, with this family. Absolutely disgusting to say the least.
