The European Space Agency's Proba-1 microsatellite took a photo of Burning Man on Thursday (Sept. 1) from an altitude of about 373 miles (600 kilometers). The picture shows campers and tents massed for the annual gathering, which attracts 50,000 people to the Black Rock Desert 120 miles (193 km) north of Reno.

it looks like a crop circle, in the middle of the blackrock desert, 50,000 people, lots of them nude, every drug you can think of, now im going to ask what were all thinking and that is..is Burning Man causing the earthquakes? just kidding....but seriously............................................................................................................................................. ............................................fyi..im not there....

Wow that looks VERY organized considering my perception (probably wrong) of the people that attend. Just read an interesting article about how much the event has 'sold out'. Tickets are insanely expensive now apparently.

Yeah.. I think it started out free (maybe not, but was definitely way cheaper, i think free though) and since it's gotten popular (some say sold out which is very possible) tickets have gotten insanely expensive.

I went to burning man in 2001 and it is like nothing you have ever been to before.

Strange but cool.

You can do just about anything a get away with it.

But don't plan to take drugs to burning man as the Nevada cops are there in force.

Here in New Mexico we have a festival that was probably what the Burning Man model was based on.
Our festival has it's roots in Pagan times and was first celebrated in an organized manner in 1924.

I have been to this festival many times and can report that it was primarily a community event and excuse for everyone to get ****faced just like the one in the Nevada desert. I no longer attend this festival as it's gotten so commercialized, slick and lost it's community spirit and caters mainly to the touristas now.

Burning Man might sound fun, but for those of you not from the Desert Southwest, it is usually very hot, windy and crowded. You spend two or three days camping in the middle of the desert, but maybe everyone is having so much "fun", that they do not notice the weather or lack of shade. At least that is what I hear...

Great pics but not a patch on the size of UK's Glastonbury festival.
