Economists expected 75,000 jobs, and it takes 200,000 to maintain current employment rates.

What we got was zero.

money.cnn.com...

August jobs report: Hiring grinds to a halt

September 2, 2011

Employers added no jobs in August, the Labor Department said Friday.

Zero, zilch, nada.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate remained at 9.1%.
...

They also expect job growth to remain weak for the rest of the year, with the economy adding an average of 110,000 jobs each month and the unemployment rate barely ticking down to 8.9%.
...

The last time the government reported exactly zero jobs added was in February 1945.

Markets dropped significantly in response.

And what they are not telling us is that all the high school kids just entered the workforce. All the people no longer receiving unemployment are not counted as unemployed. All the families that had a single working person who lost their job now have both husband and wife looking for a job. Firings occur everyday and are not included in the unemployment numbers.

Translation: We are in huge trouble.

And I'm supposed to be surprised?
The POTUS has destroyed the American economy, and all of his mesmerized minions continue to chant their mantra," Change, change, change!"
Soon, they will be begging for that with an outstretched hand holding an empty cup!
SnF

Mr Obama, your a one term POTUS!

It's kind of hard for consumers to spend when gas is $4 a gallon. I'm suprised they haven't figured that one out yet. They keep raping us at the pump. What ever happend to Iraq paying us in oil for liberating them?

I went out yesterday and did some shopping. The stores were abbandoned on a payday. Plain and simple people aren't spending like they use to. The stores I went to were major retail chains. It was bumper to bumper trafic outside on the streets but no one was shopping. One of the stores I went to I was the only person there.

Good thing we gave the most corrupt and vile people on the planet trillions of tax dollars to NOT HIRE A @(#$*@#$ PERSON!

Obama was totally swindled by the bankers and all the money he was going to use to better America has gone to the people who want to destroy America. He was put in a rock and a hard place and he made the only decision he could.

Dont blame Obama. Blame all the super rich capitalist pigs who promised us that giving them trillions of dollars would fix the economy.

They hired no one and kept the money for themselves. Wheres my guillotine?

I impulsively gave you a star after reading your first sentence. Then I read the second paragraph, where you mistakenly place no blame on Mr Obama. My bad, I wish I could retract the star now.
Well, maybe, maybe not. Blaming the NWO Banksters, if that is what you call the super rich, I can agree too.
Capitalism, is what made Americans rich and prosperous. The common factory worker was able to afford his own home and auto. Now, the jobs went over seas, or south of the border! Any service that comes into the US, needs to be HEAVILY taxed! From Norton's support services in India, to Chase Banks phone support in the Philippines(or wherever it's now located).

The UK's unemployment rate is not much different (currently 7.8%).

Not too sure how things are in America but here in the UK anyone under 25 is having a real hard time trying to get a job.
Fortunately my older kids are lucky enough to have jobs.

Not too sure how long for though.

Or you could look at it from another angle. obama pulled one over the American people and is in bed with the bankers laughing his head off that "ThePeople" fell for his hope and change scam.

It's obvious they don't really want economy to pick up.
I'm not saying it would be the simplest thing ever, but they are NOT trying at all.

Like the poster before me, yes, it has a lot to do with the exaggerated price of oil. Oil producers have billions and billions already saved, but they want bigger profit because they are selfish ass-holes that don't care about the world. They don't even care for themselves, they just want more money because if not, they feel powerless to control their own life. They have mental problems and should be interned ASAP.

Edit : Well oil producers are not the only ones acting like this, corporation, bankers, etc.

Blame who you want. Obama doesnt run Bank of America so hows he going to loan money to small businesses to hire people?

Either Obama loans money to small businesses and people scream "SOCIALIST! Get him!"

Or he gives money to BoA who hires no one and people scream "INCOMPETENT! Get him!"

Yeah, that seems fair [sarcasm]

FYI they do NOT count college students who just graduated and are looking for work.

So go ahead an add a few hundred thousand to those looking for work since May.

Enjoy Comrades!

I'm no Obama fan (see avatar). But regardless of the name, associates or agenda, he has zero experience in business. He has not struggled through building or running a business, and he has no executive experience. Think of an executive or manager you've known in the past who had personality but made all the wrong assumptions and decisions, and ended up 'leaving for other opportunities'. That's Obama except we have to put up with him until the end of his contract.

Yeah you're right. But it doesnt matter what party the president belongs to - he's in bed with business. He's a slave to business. Its not about party lines. Red and blue dont matter. The only color that matters in Washington is green.

But we all know that. So why do we go through this ridiculous ritual every four years of voting for some super rich guy who has nothing in common with us and has never struggled to pay a bill in his life?

Government = rich

You = poor

Of course they're going to help out their buddies in big business! Just like the poor help their buddies. The solution isnt electing a different political party, the solution is to elect a different economic class.

The only way the poor are going to get jobs and regain wealth is if the poor have power....well that or bloody revolution which I dont advocate yet

Well heres the thing. Capitalism requires businesses to move overseas when it becomes feasible to do so. This is because capitalism requires businesses to streamline spending to increase profits. If some Indian guy can answer a phone for $2 an hour of course Norton is going to send jobs there. Its an inherent flaw in capitalism itself that it cares not about people, only profits. Yes, capitalism got us here but its out of control and no longer helping the average person - only helping the super rich get even more super rich. Its time to transcend capitalism and move the world forward

The government chased them all away:

It seems that the Department of Justice wasn’t satisfied with merely raiding the law abiding factories of Gibson Guitar with armed agents, shutting down their operation costing them millions, and leaving the American company in the dark as to how to proceed without going out of business.

Now, according to CEO Henry Juszkiewicz, agents of the United States government are bluntly informing them that they’d be better off shipping their manufacturing labor overseas.

The elites sit on their millions and New Jersey sits on water.
If we are going to inhabit the Earth lets make it last instead
of making towns with political expedience that have rivers that
can not be controlled.

Because the common buyer have been using borrowed money to purchase stuff for the last 70 years. Every debt needs to be repaid.
