IF JESUS were here today, what would he look like?
In the vision of at least one artist, he'd be a buff Chuck Norris-like mechanic with ink, not the "wimp" Messiah that's been portrayed throughout history.
Stephen Sawyer's paintings of a more macho Jesus have quite a following.
"My ART for GOD images are designed to help resurrect the Son of Man from the tomb of theological dogmas which have minimized the true impact of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth", he told news.com.au.

"Jesus was a very great guy who lived among us as a man."

Certainly a break from tradition.

Having been raised in a very religious family I was exposed to images of Jesus that were always portrayed him as a tall good looking fella with slightly long hair and beard. There was always a direct stare while gesturing a come follow me sort of pose.

This new imagery, however is somewhat bizarre.

The first, showing Jesus in the boxing ring really displays a complete departure from what the message is all about in my opinion. Boxing is not for fun, the whole point of it is to hurt people whether you think it's just a sport or not.

The second and shown here is even more disturbing. To me it says, look I'm a really good guy and I love my dad but if you pIss me off I'm gonna kick your head in.

I'd really like to hear other opinions on this.

Cheers

Considering nobody knows what Jesus looked like, except for having long hair and a beard, it's all a bit irrelevant really...

Pretty offensive. I wonder what the outcry would be if Mohammed was portrayed with a tattoo on his arm?

While I can imagine Jesus being rugged because of the physicality of his profession, I think it is against Jewish law to mark ones body with tattoos.

I'm not saying it is my belief. I just always heard that Jews were against the whole tattoo thing. I am not even sure where they reference it from

There would be flags being burned on the streets. Mass Protests, and calls for the Artists Death that is for sure, or a Jihad put on the artists head. If it was Allah or Muhammed illustrated in that picture.

i dont see anything wrong with this at all. The normal images that everyone knows of couldnt possibly be anywhere near the actual look of christ.

Funny cause i just got a tattoo down my right side of jesus robed with two mac11's in hand...romans 12:21 underneath. I was raised catholic in catholic school until 5th grade. Since i left catholic school i branched out and have my own beliefs now. so basically for me it represents the bad ass, unforgiving, angry jesus that would come back dissapointed....
