You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd. Some of the leadership I experienced in the military busted this myth long ago.

I want to see Mythbusters polish some boots with a brick and a Hershey bar. The drill sergeants used to say our boots looked like that in basic training just to mess with us, and I always wanted to actually do it, just to see the reaction.
