WH Spin: 'BIPARTISAN BICKERING' to blame for Obama scheduling speech same night as debate.

This has to be one of the most high-school moves this administration has done and there have been a lot of them.

The White House knew when the debate was scheduled and it has been on the books. The gent has been on vacation thus had significant flexibility as to when to schedule this little talk. This was one of two things, blatant incompetence on the part of the political staff or childish grandstanding on the part of Obama.

Obama does not run nor direct the Congress. He is not king, a fact that is obviously quite frustrating to him. He came out of this looking like some school girl who schedules a party on the same day that some other school girl schedules her party - plain childish, petty behavior.

Now its scheduled during the first NFL game of the season. Brilliant

(1) The GOP Presidential Hopefuls have DOZENS of debates scheduled and in the works. Should the President of the United States post-pone a discussion about JOBS until after the election???...GOP campaign strategists, please don't answer that question.

(2) The White House OKed the date with John Boehner (GOP Speaker of the House) before sending the official request and Boehner said the date was OK.

(3) Why that date???? Not becuase it was one of the many GOP scheduled deabtes, but becuase it was THE FIRST DAY CONGRESS IS BACK IN SESSION AFTER BREAK.

Don't you want a discussion about jobs to startr right away??? Or is a moderator asking a GOP Hopeful pointless softballs like "Do you think President Obama should resign or do you think he should be impeached" more important than jobs?

(4) So once the letter was sent...for the date Boehner said would work...THEN..
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), pledged to oppose a unanimous consent agreement to invite the president to speak to Congress if the date remained Wednesday -- an objection that would have been historically unprecedented.

(5) So Pres. Obama says fine, move it to Friday.

No the president should not have postponed his speach (what is it the 6th or 7th speach about jobs). He should have cut a couple rounds of golf and a few snowcone outings out of his vacation and given it a couple of weeks ago.

This move was narcisistic, amaturish and ultimately did absolutely the thing he can ill afford to do which make him look weak.

We can hear about green jobs a couple of days later, with a few companies highlighted who go bankrupt within a year. To hear this speach equated with Roosevelt's speach after Pearl Harbor is absolutely disgusting.

Here is a gent who has canceled his daily economic briefing under the logic (correct logic) that nothing happens in the economy with daily urgency, hence a weekly meeting is a better use of his time.

Its not like folks are going to go out and hire thousands of folks after his speach.

1. No, just the day after or before, not on.

2. Boehner should have known the dates conflicted if that were the case.

3. The congress had all of August to talk about jobs, they instead took the month off. Obama has had since 2008 to talk about jobs. And no, I don't want to hear about Obama's green job scams, I'd rather hear a debate.

4. This just means Boehner is in league with the white house, more left/right paradigm illusions of politics. I'm not up here defending Boehner.

5. And then he blames it on bipartisan bickering rather than admit he was wrong.

And you call this a non-story? I think it sums up the way Obama operates, arrogantly ignorant while blaming the other side the entire way.

If they are there during the day why can't they do a debate at night? And besides, the congress took the entire month of August off! So are you really going to complain that they don't go in on the first day back? (which they probably will, I know at least Ron Paul will be there).

The regularly-scheduled vote is for 6:30 PM which last time I checked is the EVENING. How can these GOP candidates be present in Congress beginning at 6:30 PM to do their duty and vote, then be at a debate at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley California an hour and a half later?

Obviously the GOP candidates are going to BLOW OFF their first day back at work in over a month. So the first day that Congress is back in session is going to a complete waste while the GOP goes off for another of their debates. BTW they have yet another debate set for Sept. 12. And September 22nd, and Oct. 11 and October 18th and November 9th and December 10th and January 12th January 30th February 7th-13th and February 19-27th and March 5th, with additional dates to be filled in. What's the point in even having Congress in session anymore, just let the GOP play hooky for the rest of the year.

According to the congressional schedule, they have: a Committee on Finance, a Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, and a Committee on the Judiciary, with a scheduled vote for 6:30 PM.

Obama asking to give them a speech at 8 PM would not interfere with anything, all they would have to do is stay late. He's not interfering with their jobs at all, since they'll already be in congress.

Congress is back in session on Sept. 8th too, yet no one in complaining about his re-scheduled date interfering with congress then, are they?

So where with the GOP candidates be during the first day Congress is back in session? Obviously in California skiving off their elected duties. I guess the congressional vote record for Sept. 7 will show a lot of GOP "NV's" - "not voting". Isn't that one of Ron Paul's complaints about Congress, all the "NV's"?

Boehner received his letter from the pres. the same time Reid did, and Reid had no problem replying in a timely fashion. Boehner never bothered to make any reply, he doesn't have to like the president but he can at least have some respect for the office.

So they knew all that but they didn't know that a debate was scheduled for the same time?

And that just concerns the scheduling issue, which this thread is not about. This thread is about Obama blaming "partisan bickering" as to why he couldn't interrupt their debate. This sends the wrong message, as republicans and democrats, the "partisans" are not bickering, the bickering is coming from the republicans and the white house. So, if Obama really hated the bickering, he'd leave the congress alone. Obama gets the state of the union address, as defined by the constitution, he doesn't get to force the congress to listen to him whenever he feels like it. And that he is doing it for "the jobs" oh, yes, the lovely jobs.

Blames what? He asked the Republican Leader of the House if the date would work and Boehner told him sure. Then the GOP saw an opportunity to throw a tantrum...and did..with Senator Demint saying he would fight it till his last breath!!! in classic TP go crazy mode. Boehner took a deep breath and told the President it wouldn't work, so the President moved the day.

So...what was there to "blame" on bickering? Beside the actual pointless bickering...Inside the GOP ranks once again! TP vs. Establishment GOP....The establishment GOP are corrupt, but at least they are not both corrupt and scream like children like the DeMint/TP crew.
