Former Massachusetts State Senator Pleads Guilty to Wire Fraud

WASHINGTON - Bernard Joseph Tully, a former Massachusetts state senator, has pleaded guilty for devising a scheme to defraud a Boston-area businessman out of approximately $18,000 by falsely representing that Tully and his co-conspirator were using the funds to bribe public officials.

Unbeknownst to Tully, the businessman reported Tully’s overtures to the FBI.

The guilty plea was announced by Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz for the District of Massachusetts and Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Boston Field Office.

Tully, 84, of Dracut, Mass., pleaded guilty yesterday before U.S. District Judge Patti B. Saris to one count of wire fraud.

According to court documents, Tully formerly served as the city manager for Lowell, Mass., from approximately 1979 to 1987.

Prior to serving as city manager, Tully was a state senator representing Lowell and other areas.

Anyone else heard about this former Senator and this scandal?

Interesting that he's not being protected.

Especially when it's a rare occasion that a Government official, or former in this case, is arrested.

Wonder if he wouldn't go along with some other scheme.

I did quite a few thorough searches and found nothing on it on ATS.

No doubt about that.

Which is not what should happen.

Any Government official caught doing something like this should lose everything.

And serve jail time.

This is pretty funny I I understand it right.

Tully got money from businesses by saying he was using it to bribe officials. Then when the officials didn't get their bribes Tully got in trouble for fraud.

The bribing is okay though.

Like I gave some dealer $50 for drugs and I didn't get my drugs so I call the cops and they charge the dealer with fraud. lol.

Only in MA. Well, Illinois too I'm sure.

Irony, it's what we got here, that and insanity.

The double negative of fraud is not correct.

Both the people who tried getting their bribe in and former Senator Tully should go to jail.
