We are at war. A scruffy little grass-roots movement, just wanting smaller government and a return to personal responsibility.
We don't want big government. We don't need program after program after program. Personal responsibility. To yourself, to your family.

An analogy I like to use is this; imagine a person with a broken leg.

The Tea Party would like to see the person go to physical therapy, use crutches, a cane, then walk on their own. It'd be painful. But the patient would learn to walk again, and become self-reliant.

The progressives want to give the person a wheelchair (bought by someone else). They don't want the person to go through the painful process of rehabilitation. They want that person to stay in the wheelchair until the legs have atrophied to a point where they CAN'T leave the wheelchair. They want that person to be dependent. They want that person to NEED them.

Therefore, the war. They will fight for every needy person, every dependent person, because without them, their own existence can't be justified.

Just my take on it.

Yours?

You are a man or woman based on your actions. I completely agree that people need to get the silver spoon out of their mouth and try to stand on their own accord.

As long as we have this "entitlement movement" we will NEVER move away from social programming and deficit. socialism is and always will fail.

The tea party came under fire instantly as these political monsters we have in office do not even use the law to govern us and manipulate us. They dont even listen to us, democracy was out the window 20 years ago!

Well said, and thanks for the reply.
Something as innocuous as individualism, and personal responsibility has sparked such a violent response from those who make their livelyhood off the entitlement class.

Exactly!!! If people were to stand up and take care of themselves, quit depending on someone to tell them where, when and how, these leeches [aka politicians] would not be able to justify their jobs and money they spend to "help". Short term help is fine, almost everyone could use a boost at some point in their lives. But to have generations on welfare and to depend on it, expect it, is a whole 'nother thing.

I’m simply amazed at the Hypocrisy of this. Every news channel, outside of maybe fox, reports on how hateful and "racist" the tea party is. But you never hear anything from groups like this about the other side. The liberal party is a perfect example of someone having "their cake and eating it too". Are they(liberals) that scared of a voice of opposition? Wow

The TP is anything but "little" and "scruffy"!

They are a large group of fed-up Republicans that began a small movement to break away from the Republican party and express their disdain for both sides. Now the TP is just code word for pissed-off Republican. They are no longer a seperate movement from the Republican party. Once the Right Wing saw how powerful the TP could be, they swooped in and folded them right back into the party. So I disagree with that notion alltogether!

Ok, fair enough. I think the analogy is too simplistic, but it conveys your point. Let me just ask why doesn't the TP apply that sort of "pull up your bootstraps" mentality with the corporations? Why did we allow them to be bailed out?

Why don't the TP allow the tax code to take the burden off the middle class and fairly tax the wealthy whom reap the benefits of a tax code that allows them to bypass much of their tax liability?

Pretty simple answer really.....because the TP and the Republicans need them! Big business and the ultra-wealthy are the true masters of the Republican party, and now the TP.

They will fight for every tax burden to be placed on the middle class, for every business to be allowed free-reign without regulation and for all campaign finance laws to be tossed to the side.

WHY? Because they are dependant on them and without them...their existance cannot be justified!

Edit to add: You guys need to wake up! The Lefties are a bunch of pansies, I agree. But the Republicans have become the 2nd incarnation of the Nazi Regime! Propaganda at it's finest!

All too many of us, as in citizens, have bought into the notion that the "gubmint" is going to take care of us...

Remember those soundbites after Mr. Obama was elected? The "Obama stash"? Those were only the latest of what has become, or is in the process of becoming, endemic in our country. ...and lest people somehow think I'm some sort of rascist/bigot, I am fully aware that just as many whites, if not more, have the same sort of mindset. It crosses every ethnic, and cultural boundry in this country.

The "tea party" as a concept is against this sort of thing. ...and that just doesn't sit well with those who would like us all to give up responsibility for our own care, and let the nanny-state take care of us.

The next question is: Will the "tea party" remain this way? Who knows.

Agreed. TARP and every "too big to fail" issue was bull-dookey, in my humble opinion.

I'm all for a fair tax, a flat tax. Never said I wasn't. And I think that would be best for all. Of course, you'll never see GOP vote for it (they want the breaks) and democrats (they want to punish).

With rhetoric like that from the leadership THESE are the problems that will continue and grow. It won't take a couple self defense kills to begin an escalation of violence on the street.

If you're American, there's no excuse to be a victim. Oh, unless you live in a liberal mecca...serves you right.

The video notwithstanding, the "Tea Party" is nothing but the rebranded christian coalition of far right wing religious kooks.

Not that I'm against smaller government generally speaking. And the welfare system could and should be revamped to more aptly perform it's purpose - a social safety net. Instead of giving people money for nothing, give them jobs. (obviously in some circumstances, the person cannot work, but for those that can which is the majority)

In reality there is no such thing as "the" Tea Party. The stuff on Fox News, the Caucus, the Express, those are exactly what you say, those are the pissed off Republican hijackers of the movement.

The real movement is a whole bunch of scruffy little local movements, and they all latched onto a similar name at a similar time, but they are not represented by the media portrayal. In fact, my local movement existed before there was a name for it, and it will exist long after the media has destroyed the image of the Tea Party.

In reality, it really is a whole bunch of "scruffy" little movements in every town in America, and it is fueled by the true, blue-collar conservatives. The conservatives that see what it really means to be conservative. It doesn't mean religion, and it doesn't mean pro-life, and it doesn't mean big oil, it means SMALLER GOVERNMENT, LESS INTRUSION, MORE LOCAL DECISION MAKING!

Ron Paul is the true representation of the Tea Party movement, and the Conservative movement. All of the rest are just opportunistic posers.

The TEA party; when reflected as policy, is going to be manifested in massive corporate liberation.

I don't think corporations needs more power over America , it is a byproduct which will probably do
little to curtail the "size" of government as well.

Oh, bull...

My local tea party groups run the gamut from liberal 60's hippies to right of Rush Limbaugh. Whites, Blacks, Oriental, Christians, Jews, Buddhists. Etc...etc...

To try and portray them as some grouping of neo christian rednecks, or whatever, is a fallicy bordering on comedy.

That I can agree with. Sadly, the public manifestation of the small town "tea parties" is rooted in Fox News and the hardcore religious/big business.

In that comes the ideology that people in need are lazy and that they are somehow lesser Americans because they fell on hard times. Yes, there are those that corrupt the system, but I would rather have a small amount of people taking advantage of it than having no safetynet at all for the rest of us.

Just as you did in your post, we need to realize that it's not just the Dems that have issues......the Reps are knee deep in sewage as well.

It never ceases to amaze me that people will defend the very programs that keep them in bondage.

I think it is an insult when people on the left or the right tell me that I need their government programs. They are insulting my intelligence and my humanity. I am a person with a brain, two arms and two legs the only thing I need is a free country and a free market.

I have been unemployed for over two years. I have not lost my house, I have not gone behind on my bills, I have not borrowed money from my family. I have not starved. I have not even THOUGHT of collecting unemployment or use any other government program.

I have cut my spending, I have found other ways to make money, I have ended my consumer life-style. I have learned to live on 1/5 of my previous income that is NEVER guaranteed. I have never been in debt (other than the house) It HAS been very hard. Does my quality of life suck compared to a few years ago, you bet. Humans are very adaptive, as I have found out.

The difference between me and somebody unemployed that is living off the state/feds. I will not steal from another person for my benefit. I will not take possession of stolen money just because life has gotten hard for me.

Left and Right politicians can justify it however they like but the very heart of the matter is that they are stealing from people. Income Tax is theft, the federal government is the "fence" and recipients of government programs are living off the theft of other people.

I have morals, so I refuse to participate in theft and robbery just because a corrupt government says its OK. I don't understand people who take these handouts. To me it seems like they have just said "I give up". Guess what, life is hard. Deal with it. Justifying the hardships of life for out-right theft is despicable.

The tea party is destroying the nation because they are distracting from the Ron Paul revolution. The anti-american leaders in Washington want to continue to commit war crimes in our name. Not on my watch!

When will people realize that IT"S YOUR MONEY!!!!

It's not stealing from anyone. It's not the governments money. We all pay into it and therefore have a right to use it when needed! Does the tax money to pay for such programs come from the government? Does it come from everyone else's taxes except mine, therefore I am not allowed to use the system?

I am not and have not been unemployed since I was 18yrs old. Do you mean to tell me that I would be a bum to take unemployment (also paid by your employer in the form of an insurance policy) even though I have paid into it for years?

The tea party started off awesome, and something I could stand behind, then they started getting "big names" attached to them, and it went down hill. The base idea of the tea party was/is great, just a lot of the bigger fish are ruining it for the minnows that are swarming the really big fish.

Wealthy people aren't allowed to support those they agree with?

You should look at who is backing Obama and the Democrats.

Let's talk about ideology instead of political labels.
