A Syracuse teen will be locked up for the next two to six years for a robbery that netted him 7 cents, a judge ruled. Onondaga County Judge William Walsh said on Monday that he decided to throw the book at Anthony Stewart, 15, because the teen didn't plead guilty to robbing a 73-year-old man last December. Stewart and a pal, Skyler Ninham, 16, were charged with jumping and robbing the man on Dec. 22. The two were toting BB guns that resembled real pistols when they knocked the victim to the ground, broke his glasses and robbed him of just 7 cents - the only money the man had on him at the time, prosecutors said.

We need more examples like this for punk kids who also

are into "flash robbery/violent mobs"

this will teach them a lesson and give them some time to think about there actions

Intent is the answer here. They intended to scare this victim. They intended for him to think the bb guns were real. They intended to steal more than 7 ct.

Good! Its not that they “only” got away with seven cents, it’s that they beat an old man in the course of their robbery.

I agree with most of the responses so far. What does the amount of money they got have anything to do with it? If they had stolen $2,500 from the senior, then it would be okay to lock them up? They are losers and thugs and deserve to do some time.

He acted as if he had a dangerous firearm and therefore deserves to be incarcerated. As for his being labeled a felon, well so be it. It is time for the youth and those who embrace the gang culture to be held accountable for their actions. I say this with a very close loved one who... had he been made accountable at a younger age... may not have ended up sitting in a jail today.

Exactly. Nobody cares that they stole seven cents from this guy. The real issue is that they beat him up first, and that's really what the sentence is for.
