I agree with you Monkeygod. It already feels like our country is teetering on the brink of something very ugly. Especially when viewed in relation to what is happening at the moment within the ANC and ANCYL ranks, and the masses of people that are mobilising as we speak in support of one VERY corrupt and power-crazy man who is bent on sowing discord and spreading hatred (whose name I shall not mention here).

We do not need some douchebag to propagate the illusion of white racism. White racism is very much a thing of the past - in fact - the pendulum is now swinging the other way and racism is coming from a completely different avenue. It is so sad really - SA is a beautiful country with exceptional and special people - different cultures with many languages - whom all really are capable of peacefully co-existing and forging a GREAT nation.

I do hope that the law comes down hard on this man. If we wish to rise from our current situation and become a great and unified nation, each and every individual needs to take responsibility for his / her own actions.

The photo is not real.

The man was investigated by the South African specialist investigation unit (HAWKS) in 2008 already and admitted that he paid the kid to pose for the photo.

The guy is a twat for doing it, but lets not jump to conclusions. Whatever people say racism in South Africa is still rife, but I dont think civil war or Uhuru will take place because of this photo.

This is just another sick, dumb right wing racist spewing hate. Most people in this country see these things and just shake their heads knowing that these right wing racists are a few brain cells short of being retarded.

The best is to not pay them any attention and let them stew in their hate and ignorance. youre not gonna change the mind of someone like this so it is best just to avoid them.

What the press is doing is wrong in my opinion because they are merely sensationalising it to sell more papers without regard to the consequences. They knew that it would cause a stir and inflame opinions and that was their intention.

If the picture was proven to be fake then the Sunday Times should say so on the FRONT PAGE of this Sunday's newspaper as they did last week. Otherwise they will be guilty of creating racial division and hatred as the editor should have known better. I think they will also get the list of people who looked at the pic and charge them for not reporting it. This is in accordance with the recent Childrens act.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if it was real it would be a lot less "clean" than it is. That is taking place on top of straw. Rather pristine, clean straw. Think about that for a minute.

Either way, as already noted, that's some sick stuff.

I don't understand why these newspapers are making a big story out of this.

Apparently, the photo is a fake which was taken three years ago. So, the person on Facebook just reposted a pre-existing image.

I mean, what exactly is the news angle on this ?

The picture was first published on the front page of South Africa’s Sunday Times along with a police plea for the man in the picture or anyone who recognizes him to help their investigation. Further digging led police to a similar investigation in 2007, in which the picture was probed and the man fessed up to it being a hoax. The Times reports:

An independent report of this being a hoax, but the report itself is vague and lacking in hard evidence.

I think the party who is most at fault here is the Sunday times newspaper. They know nothing gets people in South Africa as riled up as racism, especially when its a white person being racist, and they used this to sensationalize the picture to sell more papers.

If they had done a proper investigation and tried to locate the parties or even contact the police they would have got the real story.

It turns out the boy and his family are good friends with the farmer and the father gave the man permission to pose with his son because they thought it was a joke.

The family has lived on the farm for fourteen years adn are good friends with the farmer.

Typical SA newspapers sensationalising to sell a few more papers with no regard how this may inflame tensions or sow divisions.



The problem is that now this farmer who from the reports is not racist at all becomes a target for all the farm murderers.
