Katia update:

The initial motion estimate is 285/17 kt. The hurricane is expected to continue moving west-northwestward to the south of a subtropical ridge during the next 2-3 days. After 72 hours... Katia will be nearing the southwestern portion of the ridge. This should result in a reduction in forward speed and a gradual turn toward the northwest. The new track forecast is essentially an update of the previous NHC forecast and lies between the multi-model consensus and the reliable GFS and ECMWF models.

So now they are expecting a more NW type of turn.

The storms will have a number while they are a tropical depression. As soon as they reach 35 mph it becomes a tropical storm and gets a name.

Miami (CNN) -- Katia has intensified to a Category 4 hurricane, churning northwest in the Atlantic Ocean and bringing the threat of dangerous rip currents to the U.S. East Coast and Bermuda, forecasters said. As of late Monday night, Katia was about 450 miles (725 kilometers) south of Bermuda and carried maximum sustained winds of 135 mph (215 kph), according to the Miami-based National Hurricane Center. It was moving northwest at about 10 mph (17 kph).

Apparently it's also been jumped to a Cat 4, according to CNN.

means its not possible weather control are periodically being tested and improved.
