Libya: Extreme Disinformation

What's really sad is how the Libya war will quickly be forgotten by the world once NATO invades Syria, probably with the same bull# evil dictator excuse as they have given for the last 3 (or 4?) illegal wars.

This is an article I referred to above. NATO has knowingly allowed a known terrorist to become the Military Commander in Tripoli.

God help the Libyan people, and God help us Westeners when they turn their brutality on their own people.

The former chief of the terrorist Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), Abdelhakim Belhadj, who led the "rebel" onslaught on Tripoli and on Muammar Gaddafi’s Bab al-Aziziyah compound, is now leader of the newly established Tripoli Military Council.

As reported last Thursday by the Algerian daily El Khabar, Belhadj had been arrested, in 2004, by the CIA in Malaysia for terrorist activities and later handed over to Libya. In March 2010, Belhadj was released by Saif al Islam Gaddafi, son of the Libyan leader, following a national amnesty which benefited hundreds of Libyan Islamists. Belhadj’s group who, according to the Libyan authorities, was linked to the Al Qaeda terrorist network, was granted amnesty on the promise that it had renounced violence.

So any bombing is going to be against military targets or hitting a mix of innocent civilians.


War is a racket. And Obama never went after George Bush's war crimes -- so that means he is obviously unable to change the "scam" or unwilling. He is therefore complicit. I say this as a Progressive who voted for him, and a person who sees TO PROSPECTS in voting for any Republicans.

But I agreed with Dennis Kucinich when he said that Obama was committing war crimes. This nonsense about a "UN Resolution" -- we ignore these all the time and pick and choose -- SUDDENLY, it is REQUIRED that we have to bomb Iraq or Libya? I could imagine creating a "no fly zone" -- a protected airspace where government dissidents could take refuge -- but that wasn't what was done.

Here's a legitimate question I've had on my mind: How do we know there were really 1.7 million people in green square? The video footage shows, even in the aerial shots what is at most, I would estimate to be 100k people. Who came up with the 1.7 million number?

Also, why is Gaddafi always screaming? There's this amazing moment in one of his speeches where he forgets Cameron's name (unless he's joking -- I wouldn't put it past him) and he's saying something like "[screaming] You in Great Brittain, I forgot your name [in totally normal voice]... Cameron? [reverts to screaming] CAMERON!"

NATO are bringing death and destruction to a prosperous and peacefull country, they are actively participing in the destruction of an established Government and the reasons for doing so are clearly sinister. Why should NATO get to decide such things? Is it not up to the people of Libya to oppose the regime if they believe it is out of control?

Erm...the Libyan people DID attempt to make their voices heard, inspired by their neighbours in Egypt and Tunisia. Gaddafi's mercenary forces opened fire on them with live ammunition. That's when NATO took action remember?

In Kuwait women have NO rights whatsoever...and they don't seem to care. Life is comfortable. Kuwaiti's pay no tax and are also given money for a house when they wed. I live in Scotland - we produce more oil than Kuwait does. We pay a LOT in tax - we pay a LOT in petrol - we pay a LOT for housing ...but I still wouldn't live in Kuwait for all the tea in China

I'm not naive - I know the oil hawks are flying around - buzzards more like. I have faith however in the Libyan peoples' character. They are family orientated, peaceful and loving by nature....oh and they have a far higher standard of general education than we do.

I remember a time when having a job was a human right, when no one was hungry, when sports really meant sports - no bets no extra large money, when health was absolutely free, education was absolutely free, national bank gave credit with so low interest you wouldn't believe...

only problem is there is no job, lot's of people are hungry, betting took over sports, health costs are ridiculously high, education costs a fortune and most important - EVERY BANK IS RUN BY INTERNATIONAL BANKS - credit rates are insane

if i may look in to the future of Libya - 8% of people in free democratic republic of Libya will play PS3 via DSL and drive a Audi; another 8% will have a job and not be hungry, and 84% will have no education and they will starve because they have a credit for house(if they have one) and work for Coca Cola or Nike etc. who pay almost nothing in that kind of countries. Oil will be sold to BP for almost nothing so the prices of gas in oil rich country will be insanely high.

You got right to the heart of ALL our problems in your post.

Capitalism is the bad guy - tptb have managed to confuse a large percentage of the public that democracy is the same as capitalism. It is NOT. So now I can buy a dvd player for ten pounds - yippee do. It costs a month's salary to pay for my household gas and electricity every quarter.

When I studied economics in school my teacher - an old conservative - was giving a class about the political left and right. He asked that we think of the spectrum as being in a circle rather than a straight line...because the two extremes of right and left both amount to dictatorship without proper accountability.

My teacher went on to describe how, in Britain, the right tended to privatise large industry and essential services whereas the left would nationalise them. 'However boys and girls, there are three things they can never privatise. Gas, electricity and water. Why? because they are essentials of life - via infrastructure - they are virtual monopolies - a license to print money. It is immoral to make profit on the essentials of life.' Within 3 years Thatcher had privatised British Gas.

But in Britain we no longer have a right and left - we have capitalism - in a very pure form.

Since the 1960's there has been a shifting of power from the post war position when economic power was in the hands of labour and the trade unions. Labour has been subjugated and quietened by outsourcing 'Shut up and take a lower wage for longer hours or we'll move to India where the employees are all graduates and will work for a quarter of what we have to pay you. When the labour force in India start making money and demanding better conditions we'll just move somewhere else. Then we'll give all the people in India a credit card so they can still buy our goods. Then India will go bust - our new hosts will have no-one to make goods for - and they'll go bust too.'

China was uninhibited in global trade for just 8 years before the hopeless inequity of capitalism was exposed.

Now the power is in the hands of capital. Too much of it. Money doesn't have empathy. A short term shareholder doesn't care about long term sustainability - their only vested interest is their dividend.

What was wrong with the 'mixed economy'? An economy where life's essentials are kept in the control of 'the state' - or rather the people of the state. Everything else is up for auction. Telecommunications has operated very well in the private sector.

I have a reckoning that the Libyan people will be able to adopt the best of both worlds. They keep the good from their society and take the good from democracy. This is a wealthy country - not one that's going to have to go cap in hand to the world bank with it's asset stripping/stealing conditions.

I find this totally disgusting and shocking , but at the same time we all expect this from NATO and the UN and the master of puppets.

Can anyone remember Ghaddafis speach to the UN at the 64th general assembly , he was grilling the west for their involvement in iraq and afghanistan . Everyone just disregarded him as a madman and still do . However Ghaddafi has brought peace and prosperity to many africans in Libya. He also has been abdicating the Union of Afriaca for some time now , to rid the corrpution in other african nations.

He is a threat to western control , a threat to American imperialism .

Please everyone follow the man Bill Blum , check his blog killing hope , for he speaks of the ills of america and NATO and the UN , he gives good facts about libya and tells it like it is !

Don't get me wrong - I think our system is appalling. Especially in Scotland more recently described, accurately in my view, 'as a statist little nation'. I'm on the verge of leaving Scotland because the institutional corruption is so bad and nobody bothers about it. But didn't we in Scotland simply sit back and let them bring in the student loans company etc? You reap what you sow - and our fields are barren. We've been pissed in Scotland for about 200 years now. When we get sober I'll consider taking us seriously again.

I met a bunch of Libyans in Scotland. I've stayed in contact - they came here and said to me 'we've heard so much about your democracy - but here we cannot see it.' They also said to me 'you have oil in this country. why do you pay over £1 a litre? In Libya we pay the equivalent of 20p. We have oil. Why would we charge more?'

Where in my post did you read that Gaddafi is killing his supporters?

Great post OP! We have been conditioned since the beginning about Libya. I remember the first "BACK TO THE FUTURE" movie. My first impression of Libyans were those crazy terrorist with the missle launcher who are out to steal plutonium LOL. don't mak fun of m please, I was a little kid.

Now, people find themselves believing the news over this mess in Libya. There is a new psy-op everyday and it is irritating! I know Gadhafi is no saint, but I can easily think of a least 20 world leaders that deserve to be taken out much more than Gadhafi does.

I just look at that whole region and shake my head in disbelief. What have we done...

anyways the reason we pay extreme amounts for oil in scotland is because thatcher sold our oil fields to foreign investors for large payouts , She shafted us and our own natural resources for the benefit of the rich conservatives at the time .

I read in your post from your friend from libya who said he was killing the civilians , which they have not proved in any case yet, it;s all just hearsay . They were probably paid to say that on film by the CIA .

Our own countries go on and on about humanitarian abuses all the time , while right at home we have them perpetrated on our own countrymen and women even our children . Nothing gets done , we dont bomb ourselves in the name of humanity , where are the bombs being dropped on london by other EU countries because our own dictatorship has abused us the people of Britian ?

Hypocracy , the UN only works for those who benefit the most , Libya was a UN council member and was attacked without provocation which is an act of war and should therefore be defened by the other members !

Precisely. After everything Gaddafi has done for Libya I find it extremely hard to believe a substantial number of people would turn again him. It also doesn't make sense that he would just open fire on protesting civilians knowing that it would spark mass outrage. We have terrorists leading the rebels who are being backed by western influences. NATO bombings have killed thousands of people and destroyed critical infrastructure, they have a lot of blood on their hands too. There are clearly a huge number of people that support Gaddafi, yet with a few sketchy excuses, NATO decides to take direct action by aiding and abetting the deconstruction of a productive and efficient Government followed by the rebuilding of a government and banking system under elite influence.

I didn't need any video or any evidence at all to know that this was bent from the start. It made sense that the tribes in the east of the country would rise up, Gadaffi made it very clear that he did not trust the tribes of Eastern Libya, why I don't know, but it was a clear case that the tribes surrounding the capital itself, in particular, were well looked after. However, what did not make sense was the entire country rising up. The media had a hard case at the start to say that this was a typical uprising. Where as other countries had the majority of the population supporting the rebellions, this was split relatively even, or so the media would like you to believe. When they said that, you knew that the real story is that the rebels were very much a small minority from the East. The media could not simply report that, people would question and even go mental over NATO intervention.
I said it at the start, I said it a few weeks ago and I will say it again. For all of Gadaffi's faults, he did a lot for that country. For all his links with terrorism, he actually had turned a leaf and distanced himself from terrorist groups, actually blaming them at the start for this uprising. He had made deals with the West, did everything that they asked of him and this is what has happened.

I have always said that every conflict and I mean every conflict regardless of scale, has those that set to gain the most as the origin of those conflicts, regardless of Historical "fact". The Libyan people had little to gain from this. This is a glorified invasion, a new strategy to invade. It has been done before, the only difference now is that it is carried out in the name of democracy.

Does anyone know the difference between the Western Powers and the Eastern Powers? The East will stab you in the front, the West in the back.
