I live in New Jersey literally right outside of the city and it may not seem so but the winds are pretty fast and they are also picking up here.

Thank you little hill I live on! No flooding for me.

For what it's worth, the reporter in Battery Park is saying water levels are normal, but a bit higher on the other side of the river. CNN also just reported the grand total at 3am for people without power in Manhattan is 15. Then again, their latest report puts the storm 'over' NYC at Noon.

Also..CNN is reporting Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power plant reactor #1 went offline automatically in response to high winds (?). They'd started this report before the commercial..almost choked on whatever they were reading and finished after they came back saying there is actually no really 'problem' just an automatic response.

I'm going to bed.. The people here ought to start a new channel. Tonight, ATS has been a far more reliable source of information that is RIGHT the FIRST time than CNN or Fox have managed.

Im still on Long Island, probably a mile away from the evacuation zone on the south shore. So far so good everything is peaches
...however all this hype does seem very feverous and aimed at making people subordinate and on edge. If and when things start to get hectic ill start documenting things with my HD cam to give you ATSers a first hand a look!

sounds very exciting, but its been loading for minutes but the vid/audio actually wont come thru and i've tried many times to refresh in between. but be stretched bandwidth or the storm affecting their page?

anyways, im in queens and its so calm besides moderate rainful. i hope its not bad but wonder when the worst will hit us without having to been glued to constant changing updates (delays) on when we will get the worst of it.

some said Sunday night would be the worst..

The evacuation is and was insane. It makes absolutely no sense and although some areas needed issue warnings and recommendation but to move that many people makes no sense. If this does not do any damage to the city the people are going to not heed the words the next time something real is happening.

It's the same as calling a fire drill for the entire city of NY. It has cost million upon millions of dollars and for what? I believe 7 people have died due to this storm, given the size of area Irene has covered thus far we have to consider how many would die in a regular day. I would imagine it's probably around the same number if not higher than 7.

You know how it goes, Timmy was hit during the day by a truck, Sandy lost her footing and hit her head in the park etc etc, people die in public places sometimes but not if they are in there home waiting for a storm that CAN NOT blow down a house goes by.
