One thing that winds me up about the UK though, is the last 2 winters the so called "experts" have been telling us that our winers wont be bad, but have ultimately turned out to be really bad, breaking records and everything, and this leaves people unprepared because your average joe and elderly people rely on people like the met office to get it right, or near as possible.
Going by the last two/three years, and the fact we have had another very dull summer, i'm expecting us to have another bad winter, quite a few long range experts who have got it spot on the last couple of years have also said we are in for another bad winter, but it's these people who dont get heard, instead, no doubt the met office will say we are in for a mild, barbecue winter and we'll be snowed in with -20 conditions!
The met office are useless.

It's not the experts or the Met Office. It's the media. They report what they want you to hear and what they think makes a sensational story, regardless of what we say.

For example, last autumn the media reported that according to the Met office it was going to be a mild winter. But this was not based on what the Met Office said. It was a wholly made up story by the media.. A complete lie The MetO never forecast anything of the sort. And when it the turned cold, the media falsely accussed the MetO of getting it wrong ......

So long as the public listen to the media they will never have a clue .....

I appreciate the knowledge of people like puterman, i swear some people on these forums are more intelligent than the people on our news that get paid stupid amounts.

Just found this:

Motorists advised to prepare for another bad winter

A specialist long-range forecaster has warned of yet another severe Winter in the UK.

He correctly predicted the harsh conditions experienced over the last two years and the news has prompted tyre stockists like ATS Euromaster to introduce a system of pre-ordering cold weather tyres.

I have been following James Maddens weather forecasts for the last 18 months as well. He's certainly been a lot more accurate than the Met office and explains the reasons behind his forecasts too
. I for one have taken his warning seriously by making sure I'm adequately prepared and yes I've bought winter tyres this year (I would rather myself and my car in one piece than rely on the council), salt for my drive and paths (some in the car too along with an essential overnight BOB and blankets just in case we do get stranded), non skid tyre grip mats, crampons, extra fuel for heating etc etc.

Hopefully he'll have a new vid out soon. These are his last 2:

Did he predict in advance the extremely mild second half of last winter? If so, I'll listen. But if he predicted a server winter and claims success because it was cold and snowy before Christmas, and ignores the rest of the winter, then he is misleading you.
