It's UNBELIEVABLE!!!! A former Mexican president calling the current government and authorities to giving amnesty for cartels and legalize drugs, to "stop the violence":

Mexico City – Former President Vicente Fox suggested Friday that Mexican authorities consider calling on drug cartels for a truce and offering them amnesty, speaking out a day after an apparent cartel attack on a casino killed 52 people. Fox, who served from 2000 to 2006, has since advocated legalizing drugs as a way to reduce violence. At least 35,000 and as many as 40,000 people have died since President Felipe Calderon launched an offensive against the cartels in late 2006. "I want to start a public debate on the following ideas ... call on the violent groups for a truce" and "evaluate the advisability of an amnesty law," Fox said in a speech at an anti-crime event.

The impression I have is that Mexico is a no-man's land, where the government is either completely coward or completely corrupt. Every day we read reports about mass cop quitting in Mexico at direct proportion of the astonishing increase of drug cartels' powers. Where the heck is the Mexican army?? Why the Mexican government doesn't install a goddamn martial law and unleash the Army over the drug gangs???? Why the Mexican people is so complicit and do not demand a ballsy reaction of their government??? How come a former president calls for giving amnesty to murderous barbarians absolutely deprived of slightest signs of humanity??

I think the answer comes in 3 words: "NEW WORLD ORDER"! There's a flawless timing between Obama's politics for Mexican illegals and the increasing of of Mexican cartels' powers. TPTB want Mexico to be the "Trojan Horse" of USA. I see no other explanation.

This is the problem. People bitch and moan when the U.S. gets involved in other countries than you complain when stuff like this happens. CIA should have intel on all these guys and we should have drones flying constantly through this country backed up by seal teams to do quick kill missions. A few months and no more cartels.

Oh but that would be pushing our weight around wouldn't it.

Many of us think that not the owners, but the funders (money and weapons givers) are the CIA and at some level, u.s.a. goverment.

And, well, ex-president Fox was and is not known precisely for his intelligence and prudence...his wife was the real power behind the power when he was in the goverment, and well, he is considered a clown here in Mexico. It was a bad decision, and in his time people didn´t vote for him but for the change of political party in the goverment.
So many regreted it.

So you don´t have to jump to conclusions.

Instead of hearing a former president, why don´t you listen to the speach the current Mexican president gave about the tragedy in Monterrey, blaming the drug consumption in the u.s.a. for the perpetuity of the drug trading and consecuentely the cartels and the violence, and also mentioning the weapons the CIA fund to the cartels?
Now THAT is something you should listen to, and think about it. The CURRENT president is against the violence, trying to fight against it, and u.s.a. goverment just doesn´t add to it, by helping cartels get weapons, and not doing what it takes to stop or at least reduce drug consumption in their country.

Mexico is the drug trampolin, but u.s.a. is the big pool. People won´t fight over the trampolin without the pool. Realize it.

Kind of hard to do considering the population is around 110 million and they have only about 350,000 troops.
Furthermore, the US won't let Mexico legalize. I believe Fox was about to do it in 2006 but chose not to in the end with pressure from US.

Then you have Uncle Sam. Ask yourself how so much drugs get in the US considering all the modern technology we have.

And this is bad, how? I'd MUCH prefer the cartels running the show...as compared to the government. Why? Because the cartels look at you and me as potential customers...so, why would they try to 'hurt' their future investors? Trust me, when i tell you.....it's SAFER!

Let me also clear another thing up.....Mexico is NOT and i REPEAT....IS NOT a violent country. Are there killings? SURE....just like ANYWHERE else, in the world. Are there drugs there? SURE....just like ANYWHERE else in the world. All that hype you hear, about the 'cartels' kidnapping and killing 'Americans' has NOTHING to do with your average citizen, and everything to do with corrupt government officials. Mexico is waaaay different than the states. The crimes people get arrested for, in the States, especially regarding CHILDREN, wouldn't last 1 day in a Mexican prison. A pedophile has NO CHANCE in Mexico, my friend. They'd be LUCKY if they made it to prison and if they DID...they wouldn't last long! There would be no 3 squares and a hot shower...they'd probably get chopped up, and buried somewhere!

A few months and no more cartels.

Took ten years to get Osama and many years to get Pablo Escobar. And even after getting rid of Escobar, Columbia is still a major player in the drug business.

No, it would be just more intervention in foreign affairs. Exactly what has us stinking broke right now. Besides, how is our military going to do that when they are busy protecting poppy fields and slaughtering civilians in Afghanistan?

Lord forbid we withdraw our military from overseas and protect our borders- that just wouldn't be right. Not for nation building, war profiteering, or resource grabbing.

Just annex Mexico already and be done with it.

Nobody owns them, but SURELY they are quite useful for funding campaigns of corrupt politics in Central and South America. No surprise at all. The (not so) shocking detail is to see a former president openly talking for protecting the cartels.

posted this in another thread but it applies here:

i live in humboldt county, california. this is an area renowned for its marijuana cultivation. i know a great deal of people who grow and disseminate the pot, yet we are constantly being told that it's mexican drug cartels that are growing up here, like in this recent op/ed from an oregan newspaper:

www.dailyastorian.com...

nobody up here knows anybody who knows anybody that has ever known anybody who had anything to do with mexican drug cartels, or purchased any pot from them. it's a running joke.

Have you even researched who the head guys in these cartels are?

They are a majority of ex-military and intelligence agents.

Just look into it, you will be blown away. Or, if you are already jaded, than you will probably not be surprised at all.

Most of these guys have links to the top.
