Four of the so-called friendly-fire incidents resulted in casualties, although none fatal, it was disclosed after a Freedom of Information request.

How many friendly fire incidents has been for the past 10 years since this war on terror begin? I mean the Afghans are different though.

I mean in the first Gulf war, around 35 Americans were killed by our own side. That's about 24%. Probably it's hard to tell what a difference between a friend or foe.

I mean what kind of system that used these days to prevent friendly fire incidents.

I mean just a few weeks ago, a french soldier was shot dead by another French soldier. www.straitstimes.com...

Why does things like this always happen?

I've been watching documentaries recently about British soldiers in Afghanistan and it seems that nothing is known for sure about their surroundings and communication is very poor between the allies there.

I'm quite surprised it's a low as that to be fair ,as intense battle grounds like afghanistan ,everyone is on edge and highly stressed ,everyone is trigger happy.

Indeed, but they should be PID'ing their targets. Those are the ROE and are strictly adhered too, sometimes to the point where if they cannot see the target who is firing, then under no circumstances can they fire back and they end up having to withdraw. It's all an effort to minimise firendly and civilian casualties.

Which begs the question, if they did PID them, that means that they were being shot at themselves by the Afghans who got shot back.

Well all the training and all is going to take some time. I believe that friendly fire among Americans is the highest but probably.
