I literally dub thee, insane. Beezer is a real deal Tea Party person who is willing to admit flaws here and there in the ideology. You, you're either a paid poster or an ignorant ass. Please, stop posting. Thank you.

Other than that, good informative thread OP. Fight ideology with facts.

Bingo on paid poster! Not just him either.
Proof is coming soon, though I doubt anything will be done about it.

I see a big chess board in this thread and in reality. One side goes *BOOM* toward the other while that target side goes *BANG* to the other. I have an idea, or solution, that's been around a while both on this forum and in reality as we know it. Why don't we trash the chess board, notice each other's differences as unique, and live in harmony with the world and each other?

It starts with a simple handshake, a sign of respect, instead of the flaming and bashing towards "opponents." The people, "in higher power," that people are pointing blame to for our hardships are the same people who would try to have blank vs. blank in any scenario which is evident in this thread as well.

By the way, OP thank you for the time you put into putting everything together on this thread.

First of all, the quoted reply was not to you, so please try to dismount from your high horse.

This is an open and public thread I will respond to what I like, not to ones you would prefer I respond to.

I am not on a horse, I currently sit in a very nice office chair with extra back support.

Secondly, your sources only proved that what I said was correct. Only 16 veto overrides in over 30 years does indeed prove that it is a rare thing. If it were common, it would be 16 a year, not one every two years... Nice try, but FAIL!

My source proved nothing but that there were 16 vetos in 30 years, or 110 total. This does not prove that this is a "rare" thing at all. Common would be 16 a year you say? When has our congress does anything 16 times a session or year? One every other year, on average, seems common enough considering the amount of times the POTUS also has his party control over one or both houses of congress in his favor.

I would use the term clueless, but confused works too... It seems that according to those of you on the Right, someone in the Center cannot have negative views about Neo-cons and still be a Centrist... This is a completely delusional and ignorant rationale.

If you don't see how Corporations are buying your government through Lobbyists and Special Interest Groups, you need to question what the hell you are doing here on ATS in the first place. This has to be THE most obvious conspiracy in America... But then again, you seem to be complaisant with those who seek to maintain control over the masses...

Let me clarify my position, I along with you, feel our political system has been taken over by outside forces who seem to have more control over the political process then our elected officials. Our system is a "Corporatocracy" (your word) which as I stated makes us by definition, a Fascist state NOT the Republic that this country started out as.

Here is where we part ways...I feel that there is no hope of redemption in our current political system given BOTH political parties are equally corrupt and tainted and third parties are actively shunned from the political process. You cannot fix what is already rotted away.

You on the other hand seem to think that there are redeemable qualities in our political system, as long as they are "incompetent (Democrats) and not bat crap crazy (Republicans) " thereby maintaining some sort of status quo and not fixing the root of the problem, corporate interests, lobbyists and obvious conflicts of interests between the private and public sectors.

If you still want to continue slinging your garbage about the left being the guiding light for this country and your FAIL this and FAIL that crap, by all means continue. But also know that none of that helps anyone SOLVE any issues...

you need to question what the hell you are doing here on ATS in the first place

My motives for participating in the ATS are about furthering my understanding of the world I live in through communication with people of similar interests and thirst for knowledge. I for one would never question why another member has joined ATS...their motives are their own. Grow up.

Are you trying to insinuate that the Democrats are different than, or any better than the Republicans?

This whole two party system needs to be forcibly removed from office.

Thank you for this. They are so full of their own BS rhetoric and talking points that they don't have time to look at facts and see that they are wrong about their assertions.

And by "they" I mean righties who call themselves Republicans and righties who call themselves something else because they don't want to be called Republican.

Excellent post which sums up the situation perfectly. Ive always said that arguing about typical partisan political points gets us nowhere. Playing the blame game gets us nowhere. These politicians are not really in control and i cant fathom the people who cannot understand it. If the bailouts alone didnt convince you, i guess nothing will.

again and also to you for your contributions. I do want to point out that the New American source for the quote is a publication ("affiliate") of that extreme right group, the John Birch Society, and the author had been a contributor to their publication.

Very, very true that today's GOP is unlike the one pre-1980. I would venture to guess that anyone born after 1970 cannot put into context today's great influence of the reactionary extreme right. The 1980 GOP was built up with a base of social conservatives further to the right than the party had been accustomed to for decades.

In the 1980 pres race, David Koch's ticket received 1%. That 1% showing compelled Mr. Koch and his John Birch Society fellow thinkers (along with other reactionary groups, Possee Comitatus, eg.) to dig in their heels, build upon the GOP further rightward lurch, and, with wealth on their side, build up a media megaphone loud enough to disseminate their ideology.

However, it was not enough to merely disseminate ideology. As "liberal" GOP voices were drowned out (and I don't mean neo-liberal but truly liberal), moderates were threatened with withholding of campaign funds and public denunciation in the conservative media. Just as in any authoritarian organization, members had to fall in line.

This decades long build up and dissemination of extreme right ideology in the GOP means that today's media is flooded with (JBS) pronouncements about the "founding fathers", "original intent", "limited government", talk of Communists/Socialists/Marxists, Sounds like TPM/GOP talk?...you betcha.

Actually, the TPM began with the melding of extreme left (Larouchies) and extreme right ideology, made possible by the bending of the political spectrum into a circle. These extremes used to be viewed as kooks. They're still kooks, just now moved from the sidewalk corners and given mainstream megaphones in media and churches....

The decades long religious lurch rightward, which offered monetary and vocal support to extreme right political ideology, is for another topic.

the rhetoric? hows about going around calling obamas detractors racists, redknecks, terrorists et al.
Or how about calling left wingers socialists, communist, marxists, and anti-american? Also, they get reffered to as terrorists as well. And there's probably even more names than that.

whose the party going around telling those same detractors to go to hell and they are unpatriotic and they are the enemy.
I would tell you, but chances are you wouldn't like the answer.

edit on 28-8-2011 by technical difficulties because: (no reason given)

It was never implied otherwise. However, you should not quote a reply to another member and treat it like it was a personal message to you, which is what you did.

There have been 110 veto overrides in 112 Congresses. This is less than one veto per Congress. There were a total of 1497 regular vetoes. (We will leave pocket vetoes out of the equation as they cannot be overridden.) This means that only 7% or all regular vetoes have been overridden. 7% seems to be pretty damn rare to me.
Source.

As for Congress doing anything "16 times a session":

Source.
They are just a tad busier screwing up the country in the name of Big Business than you give them credit for...

If you still want to continue slinging your garbage about the left being the guiding light for this country and your FAIL this and FAIL that crap, by all means continue. But also know that none of that helps anyone SOLVE any issues...

I never said the Left was "the guiding light for this country". Please stop putting words in my mouth. It is well documented here on ATS that I am VERY much in favor of abolishing BOTH parties and going to a system of strictly Independent candidates. It is party affiliation that is killing our system of government. I am, however, sick and tired of one side blaming the other for their own mess, which is the basis of this thread. I reserve the right to call out either party when they behave is such a manner and try so desperately to pull the wool over the eyes of the gullible public.

This is a blaring example of quote mining, and you will find that it does NOT go over very well with those of us who've been around here for a while. The original quote was:

This was a blanket statement and I stand by it. Since you seem to agree with the first part, I fail to see why you felt the second part was directed at you, unless of course it was to set up the ad hominem that you ended your post with:

Grow up.

which you will find also does not go over too well with those of us who are more seasoned members, and is frowned upon by the T & C's...
