Bill Cooper was certifiably insane. He was killed in a shootout with policed that HE started when he shot one of the cops trying to arrest him on a legitimate warrant. At least you put "murdered" in quotes.

A sheriff’s deputy in Arizona was shot while trying to arrest William Milton Cooper. The deputy was hospitalized in critical condition, but Bill Cooper was not. He was dead. This occurred around midnight last night. The reason they were trying to arrest Cooper was, as far as I can tell, because he "had a handgun."

Update on William Cooper
At 1:00 p.m. mountain time Nov 6th we received a call from Officer Frank Valenzuela form Az. Dept of Public Safety, This call came to us as a result of our calling the sheriff’s office to confirm that this incident had happened, he informed us that this level of entrapment for Mr. Cooper started at 11:40 p.m. mt. time Nov. 5th 2001 by luring Bill Cooper away from his home which sat on top of a hillside in the community of Edgar ,Az his physical address was 96 North Clearview Circle , Edgar, Az. The departments of Edgar and Apache law enforcement were working together. They claimed that they had gone out to serve 3 felony warrants, pertaining to someone having had a semi-automatic pistol drawn on them by Bill Cooper.
At this time we do not have that info as to whom that was who filed a complaint.
Officers deliberately caused a ruckus to get this man away from his home to create this entrapment He went down the hill away from his home to the automobile to see what the ruckus was, it was 2 law officers in plain clothes. He spoke to them then got back in his car to go back up to his house , when out of hiding came a patrol car that blocked his return to his home. He put his hands on the car window as we assume that is what he was ordered to do as they approached his car he pulled out to get around the car .
He got out of his car and tried to run for his home. Shots were fired. He returned fire hitting one officer in the head twice whom is in surgery in St Joe’s hospital. The other officer continued to fire until Cooper was dead. Please keep in mind this report was given to us by the sheriffs office and here are the numbers.. 928-333-5580, 1-800-352-1850
William Cooper authored the book Behold A Pale Horse. He was also battling the IRS. He also was a well known radio talk show host. We here at MOM have a problem with this report.

So don't you think that it is fishy for a warrant being executed at midnight?

They did a really sloppy, evil job at killing him.

Such a shame. Cooper had a way with words.

37 minutes into this video and I'm amazed. Thanks for bringing him to my attention. Wow he said Stanton Friendman is implementing a diversion plan. He even admits he's not sure of what to make of the documents that came across his desk, suggested it could have been a "test' perhaps.

ETA: Ok so I read the wikipedia entry for him and now I remember who he is. But I do think it goes to his credit to tell people to come to their own conclusion on this subject.

No, not if you want to try and make sure he's there. I can't find the original sources anymore but they went there in response to claims he had threatened local citizens with a gun. He also had a federal warrant out for aggravated assault. They tried to lure him out of his house because they knew he was armed and sworn to resist any attempt to arrest him. His initial contact was with plain clothes officers but the ones who tried to stop him at the entrance to his driveway were uniformed and in a marked car with lights on. Cooper fired first injuring Deputy Martinez critically. The other officers, properly, returned fire killing him. This was no shadowy conspiracy but a lone deranged nut putting officers in a life or death situation. The shooting was entirely justified and the sole person responsible was Bill Cooper. In the same situation I would have shot him too.

How easy would it have been to push this guy into that situation if you wanted him dead?

All I am suggesting is that maybe there could be a rational reason for him to have been waving around the gun and shooting in the first place...

It's my understanding that they were trying to arrest him for "tax evasion".

Tax evasion is something that could easily be made up and faked. I don't agree with him shooting an innocent officer just doing his duty. He should have surrendered peacefully but who knows if the "official" story is what really transpired.

Has the officer that was supposedly shot by Cooper ever spoken about the incident? I can't find anything about it. Does he even really exist or was this just a cover story for silencing him?

Also, is tax evasion something the law should risk getting a cop shot or killed over? He wasn't a threat to the public. They could've just waited until he was out for dinner at a resturant or shopping for groceries and nab him then...

Yeah, maybe, that's not people who were there said but maybe.

In the interest of full disclosure I'll say I think everything he ever wrote or said was the result of paranoid schizophrenic delusion. None of it was real at all. I'm further betting if the truth were known his wife left him because he was nuts.

again you said "he tried"...to murder...whatever...you know not how or why it happend, all your information is based on news reports and thats not reliable...like in london the drug lord shot first...äh..didnt shot at all...oh and then they tried to fake his shot...and you're just throwing personal attacks "a lone deranged nut"...and then you simply said things that are wrong regarding EVERYTHING he said is false...besides you never got into detail...like he said - do your research, dont believe me...maybe the documents are fake....but some turned out not to be...
