Delayed Intro - What I've learned

I started lurking ATS in mid 2010, and finally joined up early this year. I was a very different person when I joined up then I am now. I've learned alot here and although I always questioned everything all my life and try to figure stuff out to an extent that they make sense, I now have a place to share those thoughts with other people and learn from those people also. Another thing I had to learn quick is what to believe and what not to, I only believe what can be proven but will keep an open mind to almost everything, at first I wasn't as open minded and have noticed the same among many new members who end up in conflicts in their early posts when they first join.

I've become a much more relaxed, peaceful person. The ability to talk in mass allows alot to change much quicker in a person, So for that I thank you ATS and all members here for your contributions

To be more specific, ATS has actually brought me a lot of inner peace, and less ego. That I am positive would have been much harder alone.

I have always been open minded, but since joining ATS 4 years ago, having front page posts, and being banned multiple times, ATS has only made me more closed minded and depressed.

This isn't free and open talk. It isn't a happy place. Look at the sites layout (black/grey/dark). This a a breeding nest for depressed people and fringe thinkers. ATS allows us to talk about a lot, but it is also horribly oppressive at the same time.

Moderators are overworked and prone to disputes, users are pissed they can't just talk like in public, outsiders think we are all crazy, and no one cares because it is just a forum. Just a forum. Just. Just Just. Well I say if you are going to have a forum then allow open and free discussion (including swear words and site criticism). You know? the way adults think and talk?

As long as your message isn't a viagra ad or the like, then it is probably worth reading for someone. And GROW UP! We use swear words. We use them a lot. If you want to make this site more laid back, then allow them! Of course swearing at another user would lead to a big f-you and f-you-back convo, but that can be controlled. Not every use of the words is bad.

If anything ATS has made me more unbalanced, and enhanced that habit more than anything in my life. I came here to talk because I was depressed, but no one listens here. It is a place to go to get my fix. More stars and flags! Inflate my ego because my life sucks! Argue with people I agree with bc I know what buttons to push! Polar shift! UFOS! Flags! Stars!

It is crazy.

Conversation here is the equivalent of sticking your head up your arse and listening to yourself through headphones plugged into you friends own arse. Bah. (that is harsh, but it can be that bad.)

We all want to be heard, but ATS is not the place to do it. Find an IRC channel to talk. Unless you have something worth sharing, don't post here. Get your fix elsewhere.

Well their is other sites for what you want, you don't have to be a member of ATS. Once you learn what to avoid and what you really want to know it is a great place to learn.

It would be a lot harder to get the information you are looking for if they allowed anything, and everything to be said, specifically personal attacks which is the only thing that will really cause you any trouble at least in my experience, and completely derails threads.

And this little jog wasn't a derail? Anywho. This site has some great posts and great talk, but so much is buried in one line posts and the like.

This site can be great...it can be horrible. Just don't get your hopes up.

Not a derail at all, I understand what you mean by a lot of it being buried, but as long as you know what you are looking for, and ignore the other stuff it can be a great place as you said. I've been at the other end of the spectrum to and their was stuff I didn't like at first but I believe I've found a good balance now, and have met some great people on here

All I meant is it helped Me, I don't expect the same for anyone else! I'm more of a lurker then a poster myself anyway, I absorb information like a sponge, I just enjoy learning fact or fiction, and don't say much unless It need s to be said, or in this case, just introducing myself and how I feel about things so hopefully someone can learn from anything I may be able to contribute.

I know where you are coming from, and I meant no hate towards you, users or this site. The problem is the way we view and interact with this site. This is a great site when you are feeling a bit off, but it is not a place to have a good discussion. Things turn to rants in an instant. It can help some people for a time, but it needs to be only for a time. Overexposure to this site leads to insanity imho. We do soak up info like a sponge, all of us do...the problem is ATS has so much dirty water so to speak. We soak up info that is usually garbage on here. this site syas deny ignorance, but 4/5 of all posts are ignorant or worthless.

You can have a conversation here. It can help you through hard times, but do not expect miracles. There is ABS and BTS. I want this site to have a third set of forums. I want Above (conspiracy), Below (general chit-chat), and Structured (scientific with proof and relevant replies only with maybe a 2 paragraph limit.) New ATS meaning in the making

That actually sounds like a good idea, I'm very selective with what I actually absorb. I know what you mean and it's pretty obvious when you look at certain parts of the forum what people believe absolutely everything they read. And then all the debunker's are (disinfo agents) trying to deny the truth its just spirals out of control, as they fight amongst eachother getting nowhere. haha

What I meant by it helping me was more the certain people that I actually have developed a friendship with on here and share similar views, obviously if someone goes down the rabbit hole on every part of the site I could see them becoming a complete mess and losing touch with reality.

I too feel like this site can help. I would just like post being more thoughtful and less spur-of-moment.

Overall I use this site a lot, and it has its ups and downs. Some threads spiral, some don't. It is weird like that. Overall though, I think this site should be approached very carefully by anyone.
