Peru: A strong earthquake generated scare but no injuries

A 7.0 Mag hit Peru border near Brazil in Pucalipa city today, there aren`t still any damage or victims reports.

The epicenter was located 86 kilometers from the city of Pucallpa, in an ecological reserve on the border between Peru and Brazil known as Sierra del Divisor. Pucallpa is about 800 kilometers from Lima.

According to the website of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was 146 kilometers deep.
The quake could be felt clearly even in Lima

This is getting harder and harder in all different cities, even in those where there were no such kind of activity from earthquakes.
Southamerica is being hit more oftenly than ever and we still wonder what is causing this High Richter scale quakes

Sun? 2012? The questions are still coming trough and the answers are never accurate.
We are still guessing

It was 90-miles deep. At that depth, there will not be significant damage or injuries.

...i'm sure not an expert on earthquakes - but - seems to me that its just normal activity... via google earth - i see a dozen or so earthquakes in peru or just off the coast... they range from 5.3 to 8.4, with most falling within the 7s... maybe someone in peru will post and let us know if the activity is unusual or not...

If any one is curious this quake is on the Nazca plate which is a subduction plate on near the coast of south America. If this happened on the pacific plate one might be able to make a connection to the other two big quakes in the last decade that were also on the pacific plate.

great to know. not that USGS would ever admit to anything like that, given they rushed to announce consecutive CO and VA quakes both on 37N were totally unrelated.
