What? Are you honestly suggesting that these guys are supposed to knock on everyone's doors and inform them before starting? Three lines in the back of the want ads more like. I had a HAZ MAT on my CDL and the MSDS is only used when picking up and dropping off - cursory hand off - or if stopped by DOT police, or in case of an accident, with or without spill, and inspections at scales - DOT police again.

The guy on the film kept saying that they had to have copies to give out. Now I know he was all excited, but this statement shows that he will say things he has not researched as though they were a fact. Not good from a reporter.

In Mississippi, I know from personal experience it is sugar water they use for Mosquitoes. Stood by the truck looked in the tank, cleaned it off my car for ten years. In the county I was in it was paid for by the Casinos even though it was Federal land - Army Corps of Engineers. Sorry, that is what I saw.

yes, because sending out leaflets to the area or putting up notice boards in the area is much harder, so i would expect them to knock on each individual door rather than go through the usual hassle of informing residents of any maintence work being carried out via mail or news or paper advertisments or notice boards.

also if they are simply spraying weeds why not just say so, why phone the police and say "we are not allowed to talk to the public"

Gee if it's just benign weed killer then why did the guy say multiple times he could not discuss it with the public and call the cops? Spray monkey says round up, the guy says I am a reporter and asks him again if it was round up and spray monkey clammed up and called the cops. If it was no big deal then why does this guy clam up and call the cops? Why not confirm its round up and move on? No MDS and no info etc. yeah they were not hiding anything...

But idiots sit here and claim they know exactly what it is and there is nothing to worry about....Sigh. Even if it is round up it does not dissipate in the soil like it is claimed....

Checked the laws for Rhode Island and you have to notify parents for schools, pre-schools and day care centers and signs have to be posted. Also parks, recreation centers - anywhere that children congregate - have to be notified and signs posted before and upon completion. Individual homeowners and multiple residential areas have to notify neighbors and post signs etc. Pesticides have to be completely disclosed in these notifications. Couldn't find a notification mandate for DOT but everyone working with the pesticide is required to pass certification and a card is issued which the person could then show. Based on their certification procedures it would be unlikely that the sprayer wouldn't know what the pesticide was and there would be no reason to fail to disclose. The certification process, among other things, requires that the sprayer be aware of signs of toxicity peculiar to whatever is being sprayed. It also requires knowledge of winds and scattering so that this can be avoided. There is a rather sophisticated system in place for reporting irregularities and DOT in Rhode Island comes under the overall state pesticide management when they deal with weed abatement maintenance involving the spraying of pesticides. Water in all forms is to be protected while in the act and this is also an involved educational process for the sprayer.

While I was at it I also looked up the laws for mosquito control in Rhode Island and that is a very structured carefully controlled process (funded I think in large part by a lawsuit some years ago) and no, it doesn't involve sugar water.

So, has anybody talking like this ever actually had a job in their life? I'm starting to wonder. Because I can't believe that people can't comprehend something as simple as this. When you work for somebody, or especially a government office... you do what they tell you. And what they tell you is... Keep your mouth shut when some wing-nut starts poking around, because everybody and their brother is looking for an excuse to sue us. I'm sure if you worked at GM and some goofball started asking you all kinds of questions about safety issues with their cars, you'd tell them all about it, right? Or if you worked at a trucking company and some person you've never seen before walked up to you and started asking about how much pollution the trucks put out... You' d sit down and have lunch with him? Those street workers aren't idiots... They know why he's asking those questions. Do you really think they're going to risk getting fired, giving some guy the info he needs to potentially try and sue the state?

i usually see things run on the local news or papers, or even just a notice board on the side of the road where the work is being done a few days to a week before the work starts.

how is that hard, why are people obsessed with making out you would need hundreds of people to inform everybody individually. people usually do that themselves once they have seen the notice informing people incase of hallergic reactions or health problems a person may have that could be worsened by the chemicals.

if it is something like road works then they are put up or people locally are informed, and guess what, that does not involve 200 hundred people walking around knocking on doors.

If it was Roundup he was sparaying, then wouldnt he be wearing some respiration filter or a gas mask?

There was plenty all over the sidewalk, it wasn't hard to find. A couple paper towels and the local lab, and he'd have his answers. I think that would be considered "confirmation", a basic journalistic procedure.

So for those completely devoid of common sense or reason,let me spell this out for you...
Most likely the guys on the truck just couldn't pronounce what they were spraying...Not Round up, just the active ingredient used by many a green fingered gardener..How many large cleaning firms do you see using name brand products? What they were most likely spaying was either a weak solution of Bleach or a weak solution of glyphosate (Ok apparently it causes cancer but so does everything it seem's these days, even my precious bacon). They could spray diesel but most people would complain if all the tree's and hedgerows suddenly died off.

These weak solutions will NOT murder bugs or weeds on contact for all those who expect it to go OMGWTFPAWNED. It CAN'T be that strong for the interests of public safety else dogs would drop like flies left, right and center.

As for the Police Officer, well I think he took it all with pretty much a jovial attitude. He simply took the details of the vehicles involved MAINLY to prove where his time had been wasted on mindless triviality and also prove he'd not spent all that time in the doughnut shop.

Unmarked truck, unmarked liquids, the workers are obviously thugs who know how to keep their mouths shut, and the "supervisor" is the police. Typical day in America.

There is about a 5x10ft piece of grass after the sidewalk on every house here, that's owned by the government. They spray it with the same stuff (I assume) every year.

The reporter guy has a valid point about the safety sheet issue, and the fact that people should be aware so their pets or kids don't get sprayed etc. and, being a public service, the public have a right to know what chemicals are being used. However the premise that this is some form of conspiracy issue is IMO typical of a 'Truth Warrior' as the guy calls himself, somebody who sees the world through a myopic paranoid lens. Neither the workers nor the police officer acted suspiciously, they're just doing their jobs, I thought the cop handled the guy well considering he didn't know who he was and what his intentions were. Oh yeah, this has nothing to do with chemtrails or geo-engineering and it should not be in this forum.
