Buried somewhere in the infinite pages of posts, I'm sure something similiar to this thread exists. It's hard being a newbie.

Anyway, I hope we can give definition to poetry in this thread by everyone who has the talent or just likes to use poetry as an outlet. Here we go:

What Poetry Means

Everyone's a poet, but what does that say to me?
I wonder if people are longing to be free...
Free from the questions lurking deep in our minds,
Answers given in an untolerable amount of time,
Time that creates an ever hostile acceptance,
By a will that demands a more immediate essence,

Or are these words of beauty but a tool,
To escape and learn through a reflective pool,
Of endless notions seeping out of our minds,
And onto the blank space in the form of rhyme.
Once, I thought I'd be stronger than before,
When my need for poetry was no more.

Alas, I've come to find that I can use it without end,
To help me whenver my heart needs to mend,
From the pain of mishaps from everyday life,
And all the common issues that create strife,
Or even in a peaceful moment of tranquility,
While appreciating my own human ability.

For as long as I remember
I've lived my life alone.
Even with a crowd around me
I was still so much alone.

So when I found a woman
With whom I could commune,
My heart was filled with music
Though I could not catch the tune.

So I listened in the morning
To the song my heart was singing.
And I listened in the evening
To the words my heart was saying.

And when I thought I had it
And I knew the entire score,
You sang out flat and told me
That you'd love me nevermore.

Well, I can still hear the music
But, it's coming from my soul
And the tune is more familiar
As it fits my former role.

It's not a pleasant song to hear
But, it's given me a clue
To the song my heart was singing
When my life was blessed with you.

Hey Grady,

I've been busy with school lately, so I am just now getting a chance to log in after a week or so of absence. I just want to let you know I think your poem is awesome!
