I did not know this, Vatel! How much is involved to change from Windows to Linux? Must I be a computer tech?

Uhm, you called tech support? LOL.

(It's only cuz I love you, old soul.)

I dual-boot Windoze and Linux, because I am geeky and stay abreast of new tech and OS's. I even have a bootable Android CD for my laptop.

The flavor of Linux I run is Mint 8. Vatel can give you his list of favorites as well.

It is QUITE painless, and a perfect solution to get your feet wet in Linux. You need a blank CD and a CD-burner to get started. Got those? You also need 1 GB of RAM. Got that?

You boot the CD of Mint 8. (I know Mint is over v10 now, but she DOES have an older system.) It allows you (in 6 easy steps), to install itself on your HD beside Windoze. You get a boot menu whenever you boot, so you decide which to boot.

Mint pretty much detects everything from wireless cards to video cards. It's the entry level version you'd want to run.

Thoughts, TNT?

Same here, hope you are well.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may encounter. I am free tech support. Linux Mint is free, so it stands to reason that Open Source people help each other for free. I am always a U2U away. Grin.

And, BTW, you don't have to switch cold-turkey. You can boot Windoze OR Mint. You can stay comfy in Windoze, then switch when you want to learn more, and if you do get frustrated, re-boot to Windoze and et voila!

Glad to see an interest on your behalf. I do need your system specs.....Processor, RAM, and HD space. The laptop I am on now is a 1.2 GHZ, 1 GB RAM, and a 40GB HD, with about 3-5 gb free. I have a network machine that I back-up all my info on, so my free HD space varies drastically. Both OS's run without a hitch, both run Firefox, and I have the freedom of doing what I need to do in either OS, but honestly, Linux Mint is superior in many regards.

I visit back periodically. Seems like a co-incidence that I decided to visit tonight. Eh?

I have been busy getting the honey harvest in. I've updated my sig with the Honey Extraction link. If you have 20 minutes of your life that you don't want back, go visit it.

I thoroughly enjoyed your post on the honeybees! I will make it a point to read the link when I get home tomorrow. I return to read to the young ones at the cancer center in the morning.

I will send my computer specs to you. I am to burn the Linux download to the CD, yes?

Yes, what you are downloading is an .ISO file. You need an .iso burner to write it to CD. Nero, MP 10, etc, can do this, or google a windoze .iso burner. You got the idea.

I will begin tomorrow. I am sure I will have many questions for you...lol

Thank you, Druid.
You are a beloved friend to me.

I go now for the morning comes too quickly.

Good-night and rest well.

Peace

Its back up all.

Not sure why the long disconnect, but maybe open was "reloading".

The images at the bottom of the page take you to another page with the same images with "Use All" as the title and /end as the URL.

Hmmmm.

Manuals seem to be back as well.
