Ok, I'll play along with your ignorance. This would only work if the king was:

KING GRIMACE!!!
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/db3c9d0f84c4.jpg[/atsimg]

He WILL be the king of this country and you WILL worship him.

Why the hell would I want to look up to a King and Queen??

I like the idea of Kings and Queens but I dont feel I should have to look up to them! Seriously!

They are only Kings and Queens due to their lucky birth line....What have the gone through to get where they are? Nothing, they were just born with a platinum spoon in their mouth.

I would never look up to anyone in Royalty. I like the royals, esp Will, he is just too cute and seems like a really nice person but I don't look up to them. Hell I wouldnt want that life. NO privacy ever.....what kind of life is that?

Interestingly (I hope your find it interesting without being intrusive) but the both the US and French bills/declaration of rights (both written around the same time) drew on the earlier Virginia Declaration of Rights which in turn sought to improve on things like the English Bill of Rights (c1689) which was more aimed at protecting the upper class snobs rather than the common man *shakes fist at upper class snobs*

I find the whole ebb and flow of the age really interesting and such transformations that took place, but it seems to me Virginians (and by default Americans) set the tone for future rights of man.

Virginia Declaration of Rights 1776
www.archives.gov...

French Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen 1789
American Bill of Rights 1789

I guess it is also arguable that one of my local politicians and pamphlet writers here in England played a part.. namely Thomas Paine..

But while he had an impact on the American Revolution it seems to me he had little impact on the later French Revolution and failed miserably in getting what he really wanted, which was a return of an Republic in England (which didn't work out very well the century before)

I mean what use is a Republic if it bans having fun
no wonder an English Republic didn't last long.

Dear Thoughtsfull,
Thank you! I had always presumed, from the bits and pieces i'd read, that it was the other way around. Fascinating little outing into history i'm now going to embark upon based on your post.

Not intrusive at all.

Regards,
T

Your welcome
so much happened in that age I generally have to check my dates to ensure I am not muddling things up (which I do frequently) but it seems to me from what I have read that America led the way in bringing rights to the common man.

Yeah..... The united states exists because we didn't want a king and queen..... Well to be fair we wanted to get rid of the religious influence as well, but we didn't want a monarchy....

And,quite frankly, we are doing just fine with out one.... You think England is that much better? They have their fair share of problems to. There are quite a few people here from England. Just ask them.

he could be sent around the world as an ambassador of sorts to help smooth any feathers that our string of recent Presidents always seem to ruffle.

We have someone named Hillary that does that already.
I am sure she does a better job than a Kardueschian
could do.

Oh, my gosh are you kiddin' me? Really? You think having a monarchy would bring this country together? The "royals" or "bluebloods" are the most messed up, corrupt, immoral people out there. Have you no knowledge of history? I wouldn't wish myself to be "Queen" for anything! Did you know that if you couldn't produce a male heir your King could have you beheaded? And they did! It was common practice for the "King" to sleep around with whomever he chose as he chose. Women were treated as nothing more than property. King Henry VIII used and abused women at will. He didn't put his people/country first, he put his desires first. They were spoiled, entitiled elitists who filled their bellies and lusts before the good of their country/people. Wow, just wow.

And P.S...who gave this thread a flag?

I agree completely. Wonder who did give the star?

We have remnants of that Royalty today only today we call them TPTB or the Heritage Foundation or the Millionaires and Billionaires of the USA. Right now they are wrangling for an extension of a tax break one of the "Family" gave themselves...we'll see how that goes.

Also many of the colonists and even some of the original framers could not TOTALLY let go of the old feudal system, and so slavery was accepted and a hierarchy and aristocracy was maintained here under the covers...and it still is a government based on handshakes, blackmail, trading cigars and sharing hookers.
In the Old South they managed to maintain an aristocracy, vestiges of a Royal Class system, complete with debutant balls and all. And everyone not only had their place - they knew their place. To some extent this division between classes is still in effect today, largely through out America and particularly in the South. I remember white folk from down south complaining about uppity blacks. "Where I'm from down south the blacks know their place." Meanwhile in NY we were all fighting in the streets. Blacks did not know their place in NY.

This is why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
And nothing seems to move the regular folk ahead.
When they say "of the people, by the people and for the people," keep in mind TPTB - Our American counterpart to those KINGS, ARISTOCRACY, NOBILITY AND ROYALTY do not consider themselves "THE PEOPLE"
They are the peoples rulers, patricians and benefactors.

We the people have our own set of rules. (which they initiated of course) Yet they are judged and judge themselves by a completely different set of laws and standards. For example...
It is OK to steal if you are stealing from a lot of peoples retirement account and you are already quite rich. This may earn you a raise and a promotion.
However you may not be poor and steal a wallet from a rich man to buy your family food. This will land you in jail, leave you with a criminal record and your family without a provider.

It is not simply an uneven playing field. There are 2 separate games going on.
One for the aristocracy (Bilderburgs) and one for the surfs (governments/people).

The rich and the poor are not meant to mingle. That is why, other than your eccentrics the wealthy go to places no average person can afford. They are diversified in blue chips and you're buying lotto.
Why Health Food Stores, whole food, bike paths, parks and resorts are in the better neighborhoods
Gas stations, convenience stores, junk food, liquor stores and irradiated vegetables are in the rest.

An eccentric is a rich person who mingles with the poor and may shop at the outlet stores.
That should tell you something. Even to his peers, an eccentric is a lunatic for mingling with commoners.

This is why the commoners are herded into urban sprawl, campgrounds and National Parks, while the elite (our MODERN DAY ROYALTY) have wide open ranges, privacy fences and armed guards around the most beautiful beach fronts, the most exclusive marinas, natural wonders, Golf Courses and Private Country Clubs. The best of everything is reserved for our "royalty" and our natural wonders roped off, playgrounds intended exclusively for the privileged. Pisses me off.

no, not in the sense we think about it now ... more in the sense like primitiv societies had patriarchs, some wise men that we could question, ask for wise advice .....

America does have a royal family! But shhhh, your not supposed to know that.

The Queen has massive investments in America and many of these relate to the founding of the Virginia Company under James I and Sir Francis Bacon which carved up those lands from the very start. The British Crown still owns America (possibly on behalf of the Vatican) and, with the London-based Brotherhood, the Queen enjoys an amazing income from the raw materials and other profits generated by the United States (the Virginia Company).
