You mean this, right?
latimesblogs.latimes.com...

That's pretty different from the video in the OP.

Speaking of which.

Looks slightly CGI even though it isn't and I reiterate my opinion that these are not fireworks.

I agree they aren't fireworks but the bursts do look odd.
Searchlights on clouds...with a bit extra?

It's just weird, looks like some kind of smoke bursts

The "burst" makes me think of the Dome Of The Rock UFO giving off a very bright flash burst.

I am going to believe that this is 3 people parachuting as the lights are constantly and slowly descending until they disappear.

But still a very interesting capture and the above is only my own opinion.

Now that for sure is the golden knights... That's what I thought about when I first saw this Chicago video. The Golden Knights seemingly hover in the air at times. However, I've watched a lot of videos of them performing at night and never have seen those mini explosions. Search lights w/ an extra something? An extra what? Cool video regardless.

You're right. No way

Hmmm.
www.dailyherald.com...
Nothing about a night jump though and I still don't quite understand the bursts. Maybe they've added something to the show.

My bet is that its these guys....with some kind of new explosive firework. Is there a way to find out if they were practicing in the area - or had a show going on?

Yes but you forgot or ignored or missed to mention all the events of the Chicago Air and
Water Show 2011 were at daylight. Here

When:
Saturday, August 20, & Sunday, August 21, 2011
Hours:
Saturday - Sunday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day. Times and performers subject to change.

Info, program and schedule here.
gochicago.about.com...

Then I think those Golden Knights got an extra gig that night, problem is to prove it.

That's why I said "Nothing about a night jump".

There was no night jump scheduled here either:

I just checked their Facebook channel and they said only one jump on Friday the
19th of August 2011 at daytime and included video. Then if the lights and explosions
were not the Golden Knights it's safe to say the Chicago footage by Juarez aka Adrian
is still under investigation.

How about El Paso last year?
Anything about the unscheduled jump on Facebook (before the "UFO" flap about it)?

I'm still curious about the "extra" pyrotechnics.

I remember the Piracicaba Brazil incident of parachuters with fire pyrotechincs on
July 2007, the parachuters from the Estrela Azul Paraquedismo made an exhibition
causing a lot of confusion among people who thought the lights were UFOs.

The event was explained later, this is a video of the Estrela Azul Paraquedismo.

The Chicago footage explosions are different, it seems the lights shoot something
that explodes. If this is a novelty in the skydivers act we need to find out about it.

It is not unusual for people to attach fireworks to sky lanterns nowadays, and I think it is a plausible explanation for the video in the OP.

For comparison:

You can also read about it in this thread: ATS: Sky Lanterns Research Project

big ups to all you guys, I'm getting my education-on with these sky lantern teams and fireworks stunts.

the OP video, very cool- I don't see where you could really make a distinction, CGI or not with the burst clouds, but the kids might very well play along if it were planned.. who knows. My dad would be pissed if I blew it for him. The triangle formation is so common, so curiously similar in all of these videos, you wonder if these Golden Knights are purposely mocking UFO sightings and the way they've presented themselves.

Those kids were getting a crash course in some colourful language right there!

Nice find however. It does seem unusual how they "explode" or drop sections. I can't come up with any theories at all!

It's interesting to note that all three lights let off a single burst .
I'm going to go with the general opinion of Parachutists with Pyrotechnics .
