I think, if you look at the mccain "'n-word' baby" thing, slander doesn't even have to be vaguely true to work...

Well, that's true only when people are divided nicely along partisan lines. That's what's so different this time around, except for the extreme wingnuts, many Americans are sick to death of the fake partisan BS. Here's an interesting article...

The polls for a one-on-one match-up with Obama are climbing for the GOP candidates as the approval rating for the current occupant of our White House continues to dive into dangerous territory.

Perhaps the most revealing spread of polling numbers comes from the latest Rasmussen poll on Tuesday showing that among voters that do not identify themselves as Republican or Democrat, Ron Paul is now in a 10-point lead over Obama (43% to 33%). This means that Paul is picking up a significant portion of the all important Independent, Decline-to-state and 3rd party vote. These 3 categories represent the fastest growing segments of registered voters today. This trend is largely being fueled by rapidly increasing voter' discontent of traditional, establishment candidates. Only God knows what these numbers may grow to by November of 2012.

Continue reading on Examiner.com Ron Paul soars to 10-point lead over Obama among fastest growing voter segments - Washington DC Conservative | Examiner.com www.examiner.com...

BUT... Not necessarily sure this is really related to RP. More likely they're unhappy with his ability to get anyone other than Tea Partiers and red-meat republicans energized (i.e. donating)...

It certainly seems suspect, since the GOP chairman in NH is very close to Ron Paul, and they have appeared together on numerous occasions...whatever motive Perry has, it's a dirty trick he's trying to pull.

Here's the problem with getting info from the examiner, it's often wrong. And if you post info from the examiner, most sane people will be suspicious.

Another recent poll says that while Obama is pretty unpopular, he's 10pts MORE popular than the GOP, whose disapproval rating is up to 59 percent. That's compared to the Dems 46 percent disapproval rating.

So Obama and the Dems are significantly less dislike than the GOP.

On top of ALL of that, it doesn't matter AT ALL how well Paul polls as the GOP will NEVER EVER EVER give him the nod. His popularity will only hurt the GOP, whose young voters will be disenchanted when they choose the Mormon or the Dominionist or the Reality TV star.

Oh and re: the chairmen, the only people that like Tea Party idiots less than Liberals are the mainstream GOP. Remember a lot of their buddies lost jobs to those nuts and they made the GOP look insane in the recent debt limit fiasco.

Okay, I'll take your word that the examiner is wrong, and you're right. I don't have much stock in either, nor do I care about the establishment republicans. Here in AZ, the republican primaries are semi-closed, which means I can vote in them as an Independent. So, Ron Paul has my vote. I'm guessing we can't count on yours.
If he doesn't get the primary, I believe he'll still run and take all the young republican votes except for the die hard establishment folks...and the establishment republicans can hand Obama his 2nd term, unless the conditions are right that a 3rd party candidate can actually win. Now, more than ever, that's a possibility. Guess we'll have to revisit this thread late in 2012...

another poll showing Paul as a contender...

In yet another sign that perhaps the news media ought to think about treating his presidential campaign more seriously, Ron Paul was viewed about as favorably as Rick Perry and Mitt Romney by Americans in a new poll.

In an Associated Press-GfK telephone survey of the general population, 37 percent of the respondents said they have a positive view of the libertarian-leaning representative from Texas, while 36 percent said they did not.

I believe you're right.

Here in Tucson, the blue dot in the red state, there are many Ron Paul supporters. More so than I imagined around the U of A area.

The other day I was walking past a parked car with a Ron Paul bumper sticker very obviously placed over an Obama sticker.

Made me chuckle.

I just have no faith that the party of te welthy and corporate interests and military contracts will choose someone so opposed to their own goals, and I ALSO don't believe that the GOP will ever think someone they view as a crackpot would win a national election.

Here's another poll...

Trouble signs for GOP in latest poll on Congress

thehill.com...

President Obama is not the only one to feel the sting of increasing anger and frustration with Washington in the aftermath of the contested debt-ceiling deal, a new AP-GfK poll suggests. The poll finds that Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is increasingly unpopular and that the Tea Party has lost support.

The Republican strategy of holding the line on tax increases might prove a tough sell, as well. Sixty-nine percent of those polled believed that some taxes will have to be increased for the government to balance the budget. That being said, more than half believe lawmakers' main focus should be on cutting government services. Voters are less enamored with the insurgent Tea Party that swept Republicans into control of the House in 2010. Only 28 percent of those polled had a favorable view of the movement.

In this environment, taking a punt on another "fringe" movement (i.e. Libertarianism) won't happen.

And a third party candidate on the right only hands this to Obama...

I dislike Obama, and find him dishonest, sometimes, but not a Kenyan anti-American Socialist demon-spawn, but as a liberal he's less dangerous to the America I love than Paul, who has more favourable personal qualities... Which is prolly why I always vote Kucinich. The left-wing RP.

Well, I voted for Obama myself, because I wanted change. I don't think he's Kenyan or a socialist, I've come to realize he's no different than Bush. I think though, that you don't really understand Ron Paul's true positions, as they have been so skewed and mixed up with his personal opinions, etc. The social safety nets that are in place will not be able to be sustained the way things are going. People on social security will get a 2% increase, when the dollar is tanking and the cost of living goes up way beyond that, they're going to be on the streets. Ron Paul just wants to bring the federal government back to what it was meant to be. He wants to end the wars, and close down bases that are not on U.S. territory, which will free up 2 billion dollars a day. He wants to put an end to all the bloated, inefficient federal programs, and put the money back into the hands of the state governments. That doesn't mean that people will be on their own, or that corporations will have full reign to do whatever they please. He just wants the federal government to do what it was meant to, to provide protection, secure our borders, and ensure the states act within the constitution. I would be very interested to know why you think he is dangerous for this country, specifically.

I voted for Kusinich in the democrat poll here on ATS, and would vote for him over Obama anyday.

Wow, that was a real breath of fresh air, such a well thought out post. Ron Paul isn't the typical Republican, establishment Republicans HATE Ron Paul...so, if what you say is true, he seems like the PERFECT candidate for the people who aren't "that stupid".

It is my understanding that Ron Paul does not want to completely do away with social security.....those now who are elderly and or disabled and are on benefits already.....he will protect....they will continue....but what he wants to do is add an option on the social security taxation....so that the young people of today....can have a choice....about how they want to invest that money.

Thank you. Somebody who looked past the lies, and found out his true position. He predicted the financial crisises that we're now seeing, back in the 80's and 90's. It's well documented for all to see, people called him a "kook" back then. The housing bubble, all of it. He is a very smart man when it comes to the economy, and has written several books on the subject.

Q: Are you still in favor of abolishing Social Security?
A: Yes, but not overnight. As a matter of fact, my program’s the only one that is going to be able to take care of the elderly. I’d like to get the young people out of it, just the younger generation, because there’s no money there, and they’re going to have to pay 50 years and they’re not going to get anything. I’d take care of all the elderly, all those who are dependent, but I would save the money from this wild spending overseas.

Right now they’re getting behind because they’re having a 10% to 12% inflation rate and we give them a 2% increase, and they’re really hurting. I don’t want taxes on the Social Security benefits that they receive. I have a bill in that would secure the trust fund, where none of that money could be spent in the general revenues. So in many ways, the goal would be to get us out of this program that is a failure. It doesn’t work, and is going to bankrupt this country. The only way you can do that is save enough money, tide the people over, let the young people get out, because they’re going to be paying all these years and they’re not going to get anything. I probably have the only program that would really help the elderly because the money’s not going to be there. There’s no way these cost-of-living increases are ever going to keep up with their benefits are never going to keep up with their cost of living. They’re decreasing. My program has a better chance of helping them than any other one.

The only thing i have to say is ,the american people witnessed what the tea-party is capable of doing,so i doubt very seriously that the majority of the voters would dare vote a republican in office.

Ron Paul is for all intents and purposes, a Libertarian/Constitutionalist. He is not even close to the establishment Republicans, and the 'tea party' as it is today, is not in his corner either. Originally, the tea party movement was non-partisan, and was a grass roots rejection of BOTH parties that are part of the 2 party scam, and it was actually based on one of his grass roots fundraising efforts. However, the establishment Republicans hijacked it, and brought it under their 'wing' and within their control. The fake tea party will back idiots like Bachmann or Perry, LONG before they would back Ron Paul. It's not the establishment that is behind Ron Paul, it's the people...

I wonder how many paid shills/agent agent provocateurs there are posting in these forums?

For some odd reason I believe there's a whole lot more than you might think.

Ron Paul... his values.... his consistency.... and his stances of the issues speak for themselves.

This man is America's last hope.

Cool. If you research his true positions, you'll see why he gets no love from Fox, CNN, or MSNBC. He doesn't fit into the false right/left paradigm that only serves the elitists. He is consistently in support of the Constitution and the people...

Love that avatar pic by the way...
