Hey everyone, I thought I would get some input from you guys on which Antivirus software is better. Avast! 6 Free, or AVG 2011 Free Edition. I did have Norton that came with my Comcast subscription, but I thought I'd try something new.

I've used previous versions of both and I suggest MSN Security Essentials. I sometimes pick up something that it won't handle or find then I got to Safe Mode and use SuperAntispyware free edition. Good luck but Norton is one of the best but is a resource hog and I've got an old HP laptop. My best,

You tell good jokes

stay away from avg every time i get a computer to repair with avg on it is the same problem it can see the virii but cannot remove them all

as for avast its a pretty good all round security package can be a bit heavy on the system but still good

antivir is good free Anti virus

if you dont mind spending a few quid Bit defender has served me for over 4 years now and not one single infection teamed with spybot search and destroy and secunia psi to keep all software upto date and patched
(search for online discounts plenty of them out there upto 75% off )

what ever AV you choose still install spybot search and destroy and secunia psi
and run spybots immunization at least once a month if not once a week dont bother with the tea timer function but immunize will block a lot of bad stuff before it gets to your system.
hope that helps

Both of your choices are better than nothing. I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. In a business setting I would go with the Microsoft Forefront. My second choice would be NOD32 or Eset Smart Security depending on if you want to augment the firewall solution as well.

I've been Using AVG for many years, I've tried many others but I just don't like them, Avast is a MAJOR resource hog, at least 3 years ago it was.

My current security programs are here: (all free)

AVG FREE 2011
download.cnet.com...

Spybot Search and Destroy
www.safer-networking.org...

Malware Bytes Anti-Malware
download.cnet.com...

That's basically all you need, Set AVG to Run once a week, unless you are a porn junky, then 3 times a week

I would def recommend AVG, i have used the free version for years and it is loaded with options that a paid version of some other virus protection has. AVG has been around for years and is well know. They have alerted me of many attacks and saved my system from viruses. AVG is pretty easy on your system and does not slow it down as much as other free virus protections. Its also user friendly!!

For the last 10 months I've used avg 2011 paid edition,I got it free during a promotion they had on dot tech .org.The year before I used online armour,it was also the paid edition which I got free for a year on giveawayoftheday.com.Both have served me well with no virus etc breaching my computers. If you look around the web you will find anti-virus companies often give away a years trial of their paid versions,no need for torrent serial etc.I will need to find a new one in october as my avg expires then,it isn't a resource hog like norton-I nevedr understand people who bum up norton or mcafee.mcafee are still emailing me to buy a new license three years after it came installed in a desktop I bought.

NEVER use pirated security software a lot of the time it does not update properly and can have virii and backdoors hidden with the package and unless you know what to look for you stand almost zero chance of spotting them.

BitDefender do a free version here www.bitdefender.com... and it can update as offten as ever 15mins to give you the most upto date protection. i would use that untill they send you an email with an offer to buy the full version at a much reduced price.
if you need a firewall and other things like privacy control use there internet security package not the total security package because the extra features are just not worth the extra few quid.

Fully agree another great one Avira Anti-vir

and here is Spybot www.safer-networking.org...

But please do not use AVG i have been using and repairing pc`s for over 20 years and have never seen it prevent or remove virii as well as the other AV`s above. AVG seams to let them install and then try to remove them where as the others block the virii from installing in the first place. All i can say for people who have been using AVG and not been seriously infected is you have been lucky or you have been and just dont know it yet.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
