NASA Releases Statement on Comet Elenin 19AUG2011 (Disinformation?)

What little comets like Elenin teach us is that large parts of humanity are ignorant, superstitious and haven't progressed far since the stone age. This fearmonger behaviour would not have been such a travesty 100 years ago but in today's information age where all knowledge it freely at our fingertips, it's unacceptable.

I find it completely illogical that people would prefer to believe these nameless internet hacks on Youtube who are simply repeating some other paranoid persons meme's (stupidity gone viral) than highly respectable scientists. It doesn't matter how many times you repeat a falsehood, it doesn't make it true. Hopefully these gullible sheeple don't hold down jobs where they have to think or make decisions.

No they wouldn't, for several reasons..

Firstly, it might cause chaos that could hindre the chosen few from escaping.

Secondly, warrning the worl early, would allow many people to hide and possibly survive. The more people that survive, the less food and resources to go round in the aftermath...

If TPTB know it is comming, they want as many people to die as possible so that there's enough to go round for the few super fat and super ritch elites that have brought their way out.. Remember, these guys eat heaps and do very little. Some ppl need to be sacrificed so they can have extra serves...

There was an article in the Daily Mail ( UK newspaper ) about comet Elenin, and told how there were lots of theories and scaremongering flooding the internet. In the article NASA are going out of their way to calm people and dismiss the theories as bunkum, saying that the comet will miss us by 22 million miles.

Its difficult to decide what the truth is here, because I tend to agree that the governments would not announce if something was about to hit earth as it would cause mass panic and anarchy would arise. But I must admit it was a bit strange to see this article in the paper suddenly.

Im sure there are going to be a lot of eyes looking upward over the next few months or more.

So you think a comet the size of Elenin would burn up in our atmosphere and be harmless water vapor as it comes out the other side into our skies? Are you kidding me? I don't mean to be, well, mean, but you should do some research because your belief is wrong, with all due respect.

Some would burn up yes, but not all. Once you research the approximate percentage that would be burned up as it enters our atmosphere I think you will be quite surprised! Then you'd be scared.

But, putting that aside for a minute, you said 90%, but what about the remaining 10% a comet the size of Elenin. The 10% that doesn't burn up would land in the ocean and cause a tidal wave higher than any skyscraper and cause so much damage to so many coastal cities around the world.

To put it short, you'd be very surprised just how much of that "ice" would not burn up as it approaches us. If Elenin comes, we're in trouble.

Last time i checked they worship astronomy and astrological alignments and this is one that has too many numerology coincidences for it to be insignificant to them. I think that what we lack most is "heroes of science" who can encourage kids (or grownups for that matter) to learn about the world and learn how to tell reliable information from unreliable information. The sad truth is that many of the people doing Youtube videos (which seem to be so convincing) couldn't tell a comet from an asteroid and have never really looked at the sky through a telescope or binoculars.

You have hit the nail on the head. The fact that people seem to think that there is a "controversy" here is the result of the single most dangerous conspiracy in the history of humanity: the Dominionist conspiracy to overthrow the United States of America and replace it with a theocratic government. The would be "Christian Mullahs" have pushed an anti-science, anti-reason agenda that has resulted in Americans being woefully ignorant about the most basic principles of science. Instead of learning how to apply the scientific method, students are now "taught the controversy." Once the populace is unable to tell the difference between conclusions reached by careful observation, experimentation and logical analysis on the one hand, and mere opinion or fantasy on the other, it can be guided by "divine revelation," ie; whatever Fundamentalist overlords decree.

I am truly shocked by how well this attack on the American educational system has succeeded. The countless "Elenin" and "Nibiru" threads prove that a growing number of people are completely unable to exercise the simplest critical thinking skills. Even if one believes that NASA may be hiding something, what gives some stoned moron on YouTube any credibility? Do all sources have exactly the same weight? Is Terral Croft in a better situation to observe and interpret the comet than Leonid Elenin and thousands of other professional and amateur astronomers?

Well no they cant and wont tell. Its against federal law to release any information, factual or speculative that could possibly panic the public. End of story.

A lot of people don't believe NASA anymore. Space program on hold? Layoffs? Don't say there is a secret program. Why keep it secret? More publicity=more money. They would get more money by telling the truth.

Wrong; they could get more money by pandering to the public's fantasies. Wouldn't you be willing to open up your purse strings if NASA claimed that only a crash space program could save the Earth from destruction?

NASA really should just ignore the woo's all together. Let them rot in their own misery and ignorance. There is no reason they or any other agency should be spending money and time on pandering the fears of uneducated morons.
