2012 Election: The ATS Democratic Party (speculative) Straw Poll

I chose Obama for his stance on abortion.

PLEASE! Give us the option to opt out of these announcements!
Literally, my inbox in filled with nothing but these damn poll announcements.
Seriously, not everyone gives a damn about the polls, it's obnoxious.

How can you not have Bernie Sanders on this but Al Sharpton??

I understand the option to write in...but he has become quite popular and is known by many people on that side of the aisle.

We know Al sharpton isn't going to get much votes...if any...so why even have him on the list in the first place?

Many people are pushing Sanders to run against Obama in a primary to challenge him.

Elizabeth Warren could have been in there as well.

I may not be a registered Democrat but I have voted for Democratic candidates to offices of government, a few in 2010 alone, just as I voted for Republicans. The few people I would most like to see run for Democratic nomination were not on the list so I had to pick between the ones I thought were best, my final decision was Brian Schweitzer, Governor of Montana, because he is a hard-core Populist and has done wonders for that state.

The others I was considering were: Joe Manchin (Senator – WV), John Lynch (Governor – NH), and Steve Beshear (Governor – KY)

Bernie Sanders is an Independent Senator for Vermont. He is not a Democrat, hence the reason why he is not listed on a Democratic Party straw poll.

He caucuses with Democrats...and if he ran he would most likely run as one. he would have to do the same thing Paul is doing as he won't run independent either because he knows he can't win that way.

I bet al sharpton wins this poll.

Either him (if poll is screwed with) or Kucinich.....neither of whom would have a chance in hell of becoming president anyway....at least Kucinich is a serious option....but sharpton?

Actually Fair and Balanced?

I've voted Democratic for a while.
However, I did vote for Ross Perot instead of Clinton twice.
I have NOT been disappointed by Obama -- even though I voted for him -- because I KNEW there was no way voting for one President was going to change this system when it's been 4 decades in the planning to bring it down. I just can't tell if he is naive or has a gun to his head when conceding on every issue. He passes a Tea-Party budget bill which of course will be blamed on Democratic principles and Socialism -- God help us but there are too many who would believe that because Obama cut spending -- it's somehow a socialist plan.

I'd go for Dennis Kucinich, Howard Dean, or someone else who has been bucking the establishment (as much as they are able). Kucinich proposed impeachment of George Bush -- which was proper because lying us into a war is about the worst crime there is. He also proposed impeachment of Obama for his "extra" involvement in Libya -- which I thought might be the right thing on principle, but not very practical nor a wise move; we've forgotten principles -- why push it now?

Maybe some of the Green Party or good old Jerry Brown -- we used to worry about "diluting" the chance of Dems to win and getting another Fascist on the Supreme Court -- but the damage has been done. There is nothing in the system that seems designed to solve the problems. So we might as well VOTE for someone good, rather than someone practical -- PRACTICAL is not going to pull us out of the death spiral we are in.

We also have no justice system that can find ANY criminals who make more than $1 Million a year -- so it's a no-go on following up all the PROVEN hacking going on of the elections, and it's a no-go on stopping election shenanigans as if the Tea Party were popular -- it's just a bunch of people raising a stink and getting TV time, because it's used as an excuse for the Politicians to do what their sponsors want them to do.


So it's going to be Obama or "Rick Perry" -- because he seems to be the most controllable and "bible thumper acceptable" of the lot. I know that "Mitt" seems like a shoe-in for the Republicans, but just being an outsourcing, leveraged buy-out king without the "Baby Jesus" stamp of approval from the Armageddon lobby -- means he won't be helping to keep the "useful fools" doing useful things.

Since Obama is going to win that match-up, it will be even MORE proof that he is the spawn of satan -- and THAT is what will pass for debate.

The libs are all in a tizzy because a "known" conservative voted on their poll.
I'm not in the habit of saying who I voted for. It's my business and no-one elses.

In this case, however, I will divulge.

I voted for Obama.
(OMG, whywhywhywhy????)

He is a known element. The others? Not so much. Better the devil you know. . . .
Second, I predict a Tea Party and a GOP (meh) majority in both House and Senate. So even IF Obama got a second term, he'd be a lame duck for 4 years.

Are you serious?

See, the thing is, on the republican poll a lot of let-down democrats probably voted Ron Paul for his stance on the wars alone. The high "foreign policy" numbers fits right in with that thinking.

That poll had a candidate that supported something they could actually get behind. The "social issues" bar certainly wasn't off the chart. Think about it.

For the hard core republicans taking part in this one, the candidates on that list don't exactly provide such an easy choice.

Absent such a viable alternative, I wouldn't be surprised to see Pelosi in the running when the results are in.

Yes I was serious I didn't vote in the republican poll because Im not republican, I didn't vote out of respect, I also did not post a bunch of jokes and posts in that thread. Im not a liberal, Im not racist, I like to think Im a good person, but Im tired of members here making me feel like Im not a good person because I don't agree with them.
