Scientists have calculated that each cigarette cuts on average 11 minutes off the life of a male smoker.

The calculation, published in the British Medical Journal, is based on the difference in life expectancy between male smokers and non-smokers and an estimate of the total number of cigarettes a regular male smoker might consume in a lifetime.

One minuet? Sixty seconds?

I can deal with that. I smoke American spirits, so lack of additives might make each one, say, a deducted 45 seconds?

Anyways... *walks off to smoke*

Take some time to ponder that one.

I think all natural tobacco is a wonderful stimulant and stress reliever.

so in the worst case if you, say, have been smoking for around 30 years 20 cigarettes a day, that would take away around 4-5 Years only....

Second hand smoke doesn't kill. that's BS propaganda full of lies.
and yes, each cigarette you smoke takes a few minutes off your life...until you quit smoking, then 15 years later, you have virtually no chance of getting lung cancer or any other disease associated with smoking.

Shoot. I'd trade 10 minutes for each first smoke of the morning.

My mom tried to get my grandfather to quit smoking. He wouldn't listen, smoked until the day he died of lung cancer. He was 94.

I've seen this kind of stuff before. No one can predict when someone will die. How can they say it cuts 11 minutes off your life?

Dear Akragon,

I smoke, I also drink red wine, regularly. And..... I like the line from "Blazing Saddles", Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little are playing chess, Mr. Wilder takes a swig of bourbon from a bottle like it was water. Mr. Little says, "A man that drinks like that is going to die" and Mr. Wilder asks hopefully, "But when?" I will continue smoking, is is a filthy habit and I openly admit that. I like it, do I deserve some free will, must I be perfect or can I have a smoke once in a while, okay, two packs a day. Be well.

Didn't I recently read, watching TV for an hour takes 20 minutes off your life?

So being a couch potato is worse for you than smoking.

Now that's something to throw at judgmental non smokers.
