Let me guess....they will be flown to the UK so we can support them!!!
Give them a nice £2m house, £5000 of benefits each month....yea that will help!

Its about time these people were sterilized, they continue to bring children into this world KNOWING they cannot provide for them.

It shouldnt be for us to continue to pick up the bills for other nations people, we can barely afford the people we already have.

Its harsh, but by us providing aid, year in year out nothing changes. These kids live in misery, they have human rights....the best thing would be not to have them. Sterilize the women, and provide condoms.

Taking care of problems like this are what the UN is for and we pay plenty of money to the UN. The African National Congress in conjunction with the UN should step in and solve this problem.

Ultimately this, like the problems in the Sudan are that these countries have insufficient resources to create a soverign state. For decades these failed states have been a constant human tragedy. The map of Africa is going to have to be redrawn to solve this problem and the US has absolutely no role in that other than in providing moral support.

It's times like this that I really have to take a critical look at altruism. Why support these myopic fools with handouts?

If you can't feed them, don't breed them.

You guys should understand by now that most of these people that are suffering from starvation in Somalia doesn't have any basic education. That's why they have a lot of children and that's why they don't know how to develop the place where they live: lack of education.

They shouldn't be sterilized. They're not animals, for God's sake. They should receive proper education and enough provision to make a living.

And that's when revolt strikes me: countries like US, China, UK, Russia, etc spends trillions and billions of dollars making weapons and engaging in battles while these poor people are dying of starvation. If only 10% of what they spend in weapons would go to educate and send supplies to these people, they would have a much better life.

Right... there are still many people on here who dont seem to get it...

Our countires the "allies" nato countries/good guys have huge war budgets....We should be using it to protect the oppressed, not gain resources... emperial times are dead.. we areone human race and we should stand together and help each other...

The issue are the malitia's and and governments in charge of these countries... this isnt the end user as such it is a management issue...

the country cannot prosper because the rich are mega rich and the poor are mega poor....

to all those who have suggested sterelisation... lets do that... but across the world ok??
lets steralise you too as our governments are corrupt... most people cant afford to live in our nations now either... sure the diffrence of what we bitch about being poverty and what these people live in as poverty is diffrent.. but on the forum every day there are lots of threads on how poor our countries are... how bad a situation our countries are because of the elite and corrupt governments...when we talk about our issues... its revolte.. fight back... stand up... war with the corrupt.. these are the suggested solutions for our home problems....

When looking at Africa its there own fault.. sterelise them... what can we do there governments are corrupt.........

Once again ATS Users (not ATS'ers.. that was the term for those who deny ignorance) yes inhumane users showing there hypocritical side!!!

one rule for them, one rule for us!!!

And every Day humanity dies a little more

Just my thoughts.

Betcha . . .

You got me! The starving Ethiopian Children isn't of interest here to me at all. It's the constant, never ending cycle of guilt you people feel.

My heads still filled with wonder that some hearts can bleed so much that their heads don't have enough oxygen to think. Go back and look at Slayers chart. If the world (and me) wants the US to mind their own business, that's the best news I've ever heard. Completely withdraw all Hostility and Hospitality. Ask Belgium for help.

Interview with African Economics Expert: "For God's Sake, Please Stop the Aid!"

I dont really know if it applies to this situation, since this is an extraordinary humanitarian situation caused by natural disaster. I think we should send help in this case.
But once there are no natural disasters, all we should send is school supplies, contraception and condoms. No food or anything that can be produced locally.

Why not send aid to Detroit? If there hadn't ever been a thriving capitalist society there, I bet they'd be in mud-huts too. No militia there, a corrupt gov't to deal with, yeah but, they refuse to help themselves.

Think of all the jet-fuel your donation won't have to buy in transportation...

Wait a second, is there a correlation here? Maybe, after a few generations have been raised to depend on the government, life as a human isn't worth as much to anyone?

The country can not prosper because there is no way to build an effective government within that geographical region. It makes absolutely no sense to build infrastructure, e.g. schools, water systems and the like. The land itself will not support a functioning state.

It is absolutely a tragedy, but the wealth distribution in the world has absolutely nothing to do with it. The fact that Somalia needs to be split up and portions merged with other nations - something the political and tribal leadership of the country have no desire to do has everything to do with it. Somalians make up 10% of Africa with roughly 10 million people. A far more productive solution would be to figure out where to send those folks. They could certainly be absorbed into other African countries and there are likely other places that would take a few.

Two days ago, Warren Buffett came out saying that he did not pay enough taxes. Cool. If he wants to contribute to solve problems, let him write a check to the Somali government - problem solved. Let him buy Somalia for God's sake.

Can anyone please recommend and provide contact details for a reputable aid agency that one can privately donate to. One that is effective, and has a low "administrative cost" percentage. Thank-you.

Pray to the creator for supports of this Earth herd.... Free of cost ITS BEEN PROVEN MONEY WONT SOLVE THIS ISSUE -EVEN IF IT COULD-

Be well and thanks for caring... keep caring

Well in the news it was reported that many of the aids that was send to those countries in need like Somalia in the way of food was finding its way into the black market for sale.

This was reported in the news, so we send aid like food and needed necessities but the governments are not keeping track of how is distributed, somebody is making money out of the aid.

There is no simple solution. Unfortunely for the Somali's, they have no real resources the rest of the world desperately needs. They are still a "failed state" where even if the aid flows in, much of it won't get the people who need it to survive.

This needs to be a UN issue, the aid can't be dispensed without the infrastructure there that the UN can provide to make sure it gets to the people that need it. As usual, the UN will dither and debate while the starving happens and people die. By the time they act, it will be too late for far too many men, women and children. The Somali's haven't helped themselves with their al- Shabaab led revolt. The OAU needs to step in and be the main force of any UN led effort.

Time for China to step up to the plate, if it wants to be the next global superpower, this would be one of the ways to do it.

Africa still is the low man on the totem pole when it comes to things like this. People will plunder the continent but still let large scale disasters like this happen, when they could be lessened or prevented.

Women have little in the way of cultural, societal or familial reproductive rights in Africa and even less in the Maghreb.

In a couple of nations, they have enshrined the right of men to have sex with the women they live with and in another they are allowed to start having sex with a woman while she sleeps. Culturally, if a woman denies a man sex then him beating her and taking it is his right. If the woman complains about it, she is seen as the bad one.

In this region, Al-Qaeda/Al-Shabab have been enforcing Sharia and a very nasty version of it at that. Women have very few reproductive rights, and beating them to get the sex you need is not considered a good thing, but it is your right and God understands that you have needs. You think those guys are going to use condoms???

Your ideas are inhumane at the beginning, and don't improve if one ignores your lack of humanity and only looks at it from a strictly contributing factors point of view.

The men controlling the ANC sympathize with the bad people. Their soldiers aren't going to go protect the rights of women and children - they'll go fight and then they do some of the raping and pillaging themselves.

They will still be starving. Look at how much money has been squandered on Africa as a whole.

There is nothing you can do for a people that continue to have children that they cant take care of.

When my brother is an irresponsible idiot, I have no duty to him.

Yup

LIFE IS A BUSINESS

isn't it???

Too bad there are so many of you out there

my thoughts on this:

if we send them aid, and save 400,000 children this year, what happens next year?

the majority of those 400,00 children, will still be children, and there will probably be many more by next year.
so there may well be more than 400,000 children next year who are in the same situation, and unless the situation improves, they'll need aid again.

it is natural that if a habitat can not sustain a population, then the population dwindles, and this is what's happening here, only we know about it because of our technology, and our world wide interconnectedness.

it's my opinion that there are enough resources currently for all the people on the planet, but unfortunately the people are situated in too large groups, in the wrong locations for the resource they need, and that means that some of them are going to die. You can't save all of the people all of the time. If we did, there would be a population explosion, and there would be too many of us, and some other tragedy/natural disaster would have a larger impact on population levels.

I'm not callous enough to say that we outright shouldn't help, but we do need to consider the long term impact of the help that we give, and the fact that they might come to rely on it in the future.

The land can be transformed with work.

The political instability of the area doesn't allow this work to be done. Attempts at retrieving the land from desertification are consistently sabotaged.

Its funny its a Brit crying for aid. Why did the world have to watch the royal family wedding unfold a few months back? who the F cares. The Euros are the ones who created the African slave trade. Maybe they could stop giving blank checks to the monarchy and pay back some of the money they have sucked out of africa over the past several hundred years?

thanks
