Look this not a beginner project... so fair warning before you attempt to undertake this project... and in the right, skilled hands... a good quality bull whip is a weapon and a hunting tool with devastating power...
this book only deals with one style of bullwhip and there are many more out there...

if your new to whips keep em short 6 footers until your skill grows... with practice you can work your way up to a 12 footer and that gives you one hell of a lot of reach

Thanks go to William Gurstelle for the original article in Make Volume 9

Whips are awesome.
you need some muscle to use some of the longer ones for sure.
And you can certainly flay skin with the circus crack.

Always remember. Never crack the whip near your face. you can get hurt. always crack the whip away from you and remember that the tip will come back at you. so you have to pull the whip away.

All to true and let me add...
real whips... not the ones you buy at the adult store next to the fur lined handcuff... but real whips...
are not an indoor toy... back in the day... people sometimes died after a flogging... would bled to death

Absolutely. A real whip is going to cost you a few bucks. A good whip in the hundreds.
Kangaroo whips being awesome to have.

The saying was that a real mule-skinner could flick a fly off a mare's ear without leaving a mark.

They were called "mule-skinner" because one well placed crack could split tanned leather, or rip the hide off of a living animal.

Not a crop, but a true whip makes the snap by breaking the sound barrier.
