Well wikipedia is not really a true source in my opinion for political and company information. For minor things perhaps, but for things involving governments, and companies, they usually manipulate it and have things they dont like removed.

America actualy had major issues with Europe deploying its own GPS, especially over frequencies used, they claimed it would making jamming it a problem during wars, America also objected to it as it would have an impact on American GIS businesses.

Britian also wanted Galelio as they want Europe to be as INDEPENDANT as can be (that shows you where that special relationship is going - down the crapper)

America only allows the Euro GPS system as they have now got the frequencies changed and have access to the data via some agreement. They probably can now also JAM it due to those frequencies being changed, and thus are ok with the idea now.

Russia and China are planning their own GPS; let's see how America react in that

Dude, are you always using stereotypes or is it just your obvious lack of knowledge of german history and actual politics...? Comparing merkel (no I don't like her an I didn't vote for her) to hitler is as stupid as comparing obama to the antichrist (and yes I can give you some links too that support that notion)... Learn german, live in this country for a while and we'll be talking again... Until then: stop watching fox news!!!

I am sure if we dig up your family tree we can connect you to some bad people too.

Maybe, but romanmel isn't conquering the world, one continent at a time, so his ancestry is moot in this discussion....

Yeah, cool. Hey, on a potentially unrelated note, know who else is pushing Esperanto, since he grew up speaking that weird synthetic language?

George Soros.

i love stories like this lol european leaders always slag of england (note im not saying the uk as im proud of my nationality which is ENGLISH not british) and all because we refused to buy into the whole euro crap we knew it would nose dive germany as a country worked better when they had the deutche mark stronger economy stronger trade ties to other countries most european countries were not in debt to the tune of billions like they are now and i know england are also in massive debt but when havent we however we still prosper as a little island they only want to unite as a one goverment nation because of all the squabbling that goes on with each country so when say france is pissed off at spain beacuse a shipment of dodgy oranges (that bits true haha) they threaten to close all trade with them which in turn affects the worth of the euro because it only works when countries work together which never happens while there seperate countries with there own goverments i mean look at greece going down the pan because of the euro even ireland are going or were going ti ts up which is why mainland uk thats england and our cling ons! voted against joining europe completely we have to a certain extent but not as far as giving up our own currency and boarders to the rest of europe why let some kraut or frog ruin our beautiful little island when our goverments of the last few decades have done an out standing job of it already

Wow. Seriously? How can a currency used throughout Europe not be backed by a union of the nations using it? I think more than a few of us on ATS saw this coming.

The US is allowed to.form a country of 50 different states but when someone else does it its a conspiracy??

I look forward to world govt and no countries and borders. This way im not limited to looking for employment in this stupid jobless country.

Yeah but the US typically has about 300 million people all speaking the same language, that ain't the case with the Europeans.
It's the old world here and very little in common with each other.
The US is a nation of joiners and has soaked up immigration somewhat better than the EU's train-wreck of 3rd worlders....

Surely the US was however diverse still comparatively homogenous compared to the massive regional differences that are seen in Europe. Accents in England change within 10 miles, words mean different things, cultural understanding morphs significantly. Would this not cause much more tension in a Europe whose citizens see their individual cultural heritages under attack from the blender that is closer union?

I'm still on the first page, but this made me
Everything you just tacked to Europe still applies in the US. Obviously, you haven't paid much attention to the widely varying accents and slangs we have. I can tell you with absolute certainty that as a south Floridian, my accent differs noticeably from those in north Florida, as does some of our local slang. And the Florida culture is different from Louisiana culture, Montana culture, Massachusetts culture. For crying out loud, in Florida we even have a little disdain for panhandle Floridians that we feel are more Georgian, Alabamian and Mississippian than Floridian. And I guarantee a proud Brooklyn individual will tell you they differ greatly from a New Jersey person.

Just because it's America doesn't mean the regional and local intricacies don't count. If we can manage, so can Europe.

No but he's digging up old nazi fairy tales which is totally moot in this discussion... Last time I checked the thread was about CURRENT germany and france and their take on a european government and not about the second world war... Maybe you missed that point...

The poster I responded to was commenting on romanmel's ancestry, which is irrelevant to this discussion. Romanmel was commenting on the current German leadership, and potential reason for their current actions, which most definitely IS germaine.

you're joking, right? calling an almost 70 year old nazi agenda a potential reason for merkel's current statement is as outlandish as for e.g stating that obama's political decisions are a kind of payback because his ancestors were held as slaves 200 years ago...

and if you consider a belligerent attitude to be germa(i)ne ask yourself which country presently is deploying the largest number of troops in countries that don't belong to its territory...

Perhaps the reference to Nazis isn't so far off the mark.

Even the MSM can see the writing on the wall. The linked news article is by Simon Heffer of the Daily Mail, a well respected journalist.

He doesn't pull any punches by terming this as the rise of the Fourth Reich.

Nation of joiners? I can recall a certain civil war.

One day all the borders will be removed. We will work out our problems but at least some countries are trying to do it.
world govt isn't the boogyman people make it out to be. I don't knwo why this is so hard to deal with.

No, I'm not joking. That was precisely the reason for my response.

70 years or 700, the lust for power seems to never go out of vogue.

Bringing Obama's ancestry into the debate is not germaine, either. He doesn't run Germany, France, or the EU. In any event, his ancestors weren't held as slaves, so that won't wash as an excuse for his malfeasance. His father was Kenyan, not American Slave stock, and his mother was white. Do you always go off-point to try to uphold a point? That doesn't work very well.

I dunno. Give me a hint. Is that country in the EU, which would make it applicable to the discussion at hand?

And no, spelling has never been a strong point with me.

There are sadly, many whom do not read about history. If you failed to do so, you will never learn about the mistakes our ancestors made in the past, and be spared of the pain to repeat it again, as history, sadly realized by many, repeats often during the course of our current civilisation of 5000 yrs old.

Today, somehow, it seems a fluke or a flux of time had warped us back to the earth changing 30s -40s. Look around and you will find parallels everywhere, just as the parellel of US-Iraq conflict ending similarly to the US-Vietnam war.

With the current turmoil in the financial crisis, history had happened again, not in the form of a military war, but an economic one. The names may had been changed, but characters and location remains the same:....

USA President Roosevelt - President Obama fighting for the debt ceiling to be raised so as to gain trust, and succeeded, with money pouring in and being the strongest nation on Earth that even China's CCP gov had to kowtow to today, to save the world, not by bailouts to banks, but by real investments to the people as Roosevelt had done.

Imperial Japan - Today's China CCP gov, as it eyes the riches of Asia as Imperial Japan had.

Italy Mussolini - similar with the current PM as a clown that Mussolini was, never to be taken seriously for his stupidity to the horrendous fate of his people.

VIchy France - the spineless current french gov that now rules is similar to Petain's vichy france, surrendering with its suicidal austerity drive that will doom the nation as Petain did while bootlicking tyrants.

England's appeaser Chamberlain - Cameron is another appeaser to tyranny to banksters, bowing to them by accepting the grevious austerity drive that will eventually burn London down.

Germany's President Hinderburg - Hinderburg was the last and true socialist democratic President of Germany in 1932 before he gave in to the amageddon of Hitler's rule. Merkal is President Hinderburg in this moment of time. She MUST NOT surrender the nation's sovereignity, by becoming slaves over debts not of her own. The hope of the world and more critically, the German People, lays in her now, to NOT surrender to the banksters demands.

Hitler - ? Perhaps it is the head of the International Bank of Settlements, the MOTHER of all central bankers, whom holds much of the world's wealth in cash and resources???

When history repeats itself, when we realize it, we can and MUST change the script!
