Obama clashes with Tea Party member

President Obama came face-to-face with the Tea Party last night in Iowa, clashing with members during and after a town hall last night.

Ryan Rhodes, a group leader in the Hawkeye State, stood up and shouted a question during a town hall asking the president how he can call for more civility when "your vice president is calling people like me, a Tea Party member, a 'terrorist.'"

Obama, who had not called on the man, said the town hall wouldn't work "if you just stand up when I asked everybody to raise their hand ... I didn't see you. I wasn't avoiding you ... Please."

Apologies if this has been posted. I didn't find it. The video is on the link and I am sure will be on YouTube shortly. This exchange is fascinating to me as its cordial and Obama tries to respond but the most amazing thing is that the two terrorists were not shouted down with chants of YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN! like in the past. The guy with the Obama shirt just watched quietly. Good for the country, but bad for Obama if his base cannot defend him any longer.

Here's the vid from one of the news outlets:

Love how the reporters immediately jump to Obama's defence: "of course, Biden really didn't call the TEA party terrorists."

C'mon folks, we all know what he meant to imply...

I guarantee you these two will be up on Fox News tonight being interviewed. I don't actually believe that either of them are true Tea Party - more like TPINOS. If I was there in front of Obama I wouldn't be asking him something as lame and old as why did Biden call us terrorists - I would ask him something more relevant about the economy or abuse of executive orders.

"Obama added: "Now, in fairness, since I've been called a socialist who wasn't born in this country, who is destroying America and taking away its freedoms because I passed a health care bill, I'm all for lowering the rhetoric." - ops link

Well said mr. President . I could not have said it better

"The Tea Party movement (TPM) is an American populist[1][2][3] political movement that is generally recognized as conservative and libertarian,[4][5] and has sponsored protests and supported political candidates since 2009.[6][7][8] It endorses reduced government spending,[9][10] opposition to taxation in varying degrees,[10] reduction of the national debt and federal budget deficit,[9] and adherence to an originalist interpretation of the United States Constitution.' - en.wikipedia.org...

I really wish more people would get this. EVERY movement has false leaders for the sake of having their very own pet sheeple. This extends to religion, politics, atheists, communists, et. al. We're lucky when they're meerly posers, but some of them are out to consume us.

Yes, you are right. Obama is a false leader for the Democrats. Boehner is a false leader for the Republicans. This is why the Tea Party exists. Those two then just decided to co-opt the Tea Party. The best way to destroy a movement is to join it and lead it astray. This is why I don't understand why, given the opportunity, you ask a lame question such as this of the president if you are truly in the Tea Party. Rhetoric is not why I would join the Tea Party - I would join because the government is out of control in spending and indebting future generations, lacks any common sense on economics, continues to push for more war (or whatever they call it), and deems citizens as things to be controlled, used, and abused and not people.

yes its the ignorance of the people in that party that allows such members to thrive and get away with it ...

damn ignorance is the cancer that won't go away

Remember...

Anyone who disagrees with Obama and his agenda is a terrorist. It's that simple these days.

If you believe in freedom, free speech, the right to assemble, less invasive Government, no more foreign occupations, true transparency in Government, the constitution...

You are a terrorist.

If you believe that Obama should be out of the White House and a few former Presidents should be tried for War Crimes, if you believe in Ron Paul, the Tea Party or anyone other than Obama...

You are a terrorist.

If you believe the TSA, DHS, FBI, CIA, FEMA and many other alphabet agencies that are no longer only about protecting the people but are actually now viewing citizens as the enemy...

You are a terrorist.

If you disagree with pat downs, unwarranted search and seizure of self and private property, illegal wire taps, police brutality, Nanny States & Laws, CCTV on every street corner...

You are a terrorist.

In a nutshell....if you oppose the NWO...You are a terrorist.

How long before we have a campaign commercial with 20 different people of different races and creeds stating:

"I am a terrorist".

Almost the same...

I'm so sick of one political party referring to another as Terrorist! The word "terrorist" has become nothing more than a slanderous label that is attached to anything any politician doesn't believe in! Op, for the love of all that is good and holy in this world, STOP PERPETUATING THIS IGNORANCE!

Don't worry about Obama , he can handle these tea party losers with one hand tied behind his back. the one thing about Obama is the man is grace under pressure personified. if anyone can deal with the rude, loud mouthed hutzpah of the tea party it is our Prez. I enjoy watching Obama dismantling these idiots. I only wish he would do it slower so we could savor these moments and enjoy it even more. there's nothing quite as satisfying as a "wanna be" patriot being marginalized &/or taken down .......... and noone, noone does it better than Obama. give them hell Mr President.

I remember when George Bush and Dick Cheney called people who opposed or questioned the war in Iraq un-American.

More political party mud-slinging and political leaders covering their tracks. Why wasn't this amount of outrage against Obama directed as much to the Bush Administration? No matter which way you look at it, both parties are the same.

What surprises me is, where were the hecklers who were against the Bush administration? If I recall, Bush supporters were the only people allowed into town hall meetings and rallies. While people who were against his policies had to stand blocks away from the rallies. That smells more like something a communist government would do rather than in a free society.

Now for the conspiracy. I've watched this a few times and I'm not buying it. I think these people are plants from the Obama administration. His poll numbers are dropping, his base is not supporting him, so what better way for them to be re-energized then by having him attacked by right-wing terrorists - how dare they question him? No one intervenes to help Obama and a camera catches it all - instant front page. Watch for this to be pushed to the top of the talking points and then wonder what was happening behind the scenes that is obscured by all of this.

It's not ignorance, it's paradigms. Dad did a class in logic that covered this in college. There was a video they played of someone slowly flipping through a deck of cards, and everyone was supposed to write down what they saw. More than 90% of the answers through the class were wrong because the diamonds and heartsw were black, while the clubs and spades were red. The mind couldn't process that there was such a thing as a deck of cards alien to the rest, and suppled the viewer with information that was plain not there.

When you firmly belive something is true and good, like taking care of the poor, giving everyone good healthcare, any one who spouts factual statements about not being able to afford to do this for the whole country, that person has attacked what your preconceptions are founded on. They are evil for pushing you outside of your belief. Anyone who can spout what you believe in, yet does things factually against what they said, as long as they toe the verbal party line, people will not see the facts that belie what they say. You don't have to have truth when you have the weight of conditioning to add to your arguments. This holds true for EVERYTHING in life.

And every time I tell people this, when I'm pointing out the assumptions that go into the traditional conclusion, they cannot see that what I'm talking about is an assumption because it's always been taught as fact. The worst one is whn I finally start getting this concept through people's heads, and then they say, "Why should I question everything that is established? Shouldn't I be able to trust x,y,z? *sigh*

It's not that everyone needs to change their viewpoints, it's that they need to become more self-aware of what they find easy to swallow without questioning.

Good post, I agree. It is easy to become an unexpected defender of a position you would not have normally taken. Typically because they present a false alternative. Your children starve if the debt ceiling is not raised! Yes, yes! Raise the debt ceiling!

The same thing with war, intervention, the police state, taxes, and so on. We have people right now on Ron Paul threads arguing that the United States must intervene and preemptively attack nations and that such militarism will make their children safer.

h#!!All of us on ATS are probably on the list
God every time I hear Obama speak my blood pressure goes up! See how he got tongue tied? That's one of the big differences between Ron Paul, and all of the other candidates they can't answer real questions, the only ones they answer are scripted or planted ones,Ron Paul will answer anyone, anytime, anyplace, without hesitation.....
Go Ron Paul!!
